USB Volcano May Be Best, Most Useless USB Gizmo Yet
Posted by Kit Eaton at 12:30 AM on October 1, 2008
The humble USB socket has provided power for some weird gizmos, but I think this might just take the biscuit: it's a USB-powered volcano. A fake one (duh!) in fact, with plastic lava beads that erupt out of the volcano in a water-filled desktop toy. Awesome—the mega-destructive and impressive power of nature reduced to one naff toy that you even have to provide your own water for. At least it's got bright LEDs inside so at night it kinda, sorta looks a little like the real thing would do. Okay, so it doesn't look anything like a real cone volcano... but that doesn't stop me liking it. Yours for a mere $US18. [Gadget4All via Ubergizmo]

One of the better USB gadgets I have seen. Reminds me of my 4th grade science project, which was a paper mache and baking soda (I think) volcano, complete with tiny palm tree on the side that I swiped off of one of my dads really bad hats (I left the hula girl so he didnt notice.) I got an A on that volcano, but it made a hell of a mess on my teachers desk.

@Richard Baguley: Nahhhh this is a totally different craptacular USB Volcano. And it's $12 cheaper, which must equate to...oh about, $10 in current market prices

@Richard Baguley:
It looks very similar but this one looks more rounded and shitty.

That would be the same product that I posted about here in 2006, I think ;-)

A "mere" $18? The day when the US replaces the dollar bill with a looney (and maybe a tooney) is when I'll refer to $18 as "mere" for a fake USB volcano.

Sweet! I want a Mt. St. Desktop! Next I'll construct a min Pompei out of Lego minifigs and turn my desk into a diarama.

So, how long until I can get a REAL volcano on my USB port, actual size?
