Anyone know what the average HDX movie is taking up for storage/bandwidth?

I can watch Starship Troopers 3 in HD!?
I'll pass on that one, but everything else looks pretty nice to me.

this, along with the $200 in free movies when you buy the $300 box through BestBuy might just make me a owner...

Lots of movies, few you really want to watch, HD or not.

Just out of curiosity is there any info about this "HDX" format? Or is this just a re-working of divx/mpeg4/h.264? Seems less proprietary is better, but who knows I am just a wacky crazy kind of a person, that likes open formats, rather than closed.

I received a response from VUDU.
HD = 4GB
HDX = 10GB
so those of us with monthly bandwidth restrictions are screwed. :(

@DigitalReaper:
You'll be fine on a 250GB cap, but maybe not a 50GB cap that I hear some smaller providers have. But really, it's not VUDU's fault. I fear cable companies are going to use caps to force users into their own services :(
P.S. It's fairly obvious, but I do want to point out that numbers quoted above are average sizes and will vary based on movie length :)

@beekerstudios:
All of VUDU content is in H.264. However, they tweak encoding settings and they, especially when it comes to HDX, are probably proprietary as they don't like to elaborate on it (understandable since they are trying to differentiate on quality).
Also, even SD rentals on VUDU can look good if the source is good quality. For example, SD version of "Chinatown" looks HD-like and is one of 99-cent movies ("99 for 99" weekly promo).

@voltron80:
Everyone has the wrong idea about those new Comcast limits, I've spoken to Comcast about this as I have close to a dozen computers running off of my home connection (not a more expensive business line), some of which are running a business and use ungodly amounts of bandwidth. What I've been told is that despite what people have been saying, there is NO way Comcast would ever actually just cut your service out from under you, and the worst case scenario is you'll get a phone call about how much bandwidth you've been using and they'll want to talk to you about what is using all this bandwidth and setting up a plan that works.

FWIW, those numbers aren't the size of the movie but rather the bit rate of the content. Instant HD streams are roughly 4mbps and HDX are roughly 10mbps. To get disk space (or bandwidth against a cap) is easy math. For a 90-minute movie, instant HD movies would be somewhere around 2.5GB and HDX titles 6.5 GB. So you could watch up to 100 instant HD or nearly 40 HDX titles in a month without hitting against the 250GB Comcast cap. Patrick Ellis VUDU
