The New Xbox Experience Cometh on November 19
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 1:47 PM on October 9, 2008
Microsoft's New Xbox Experience, the upcoming dashboard system that'll let you create avatars and social network, now has a set date for its worldwide launch--November 19. The guys from Redmond showed a completed version of the NXE at the Tokyo Game Show, and included a little Xbox-avatar Bill Gates announcing that he's "a PC." Cute.
In about six weeks, you'll get the ability to create your Xbox mini-you, as well as get access to themes and a new games channel that lets you browse visually and includes new games details pages. Also up, a Spotlight channel that'll focus on popular and new content—games, movies, demos etc. [Kotaku]

I probably shouldn't ask if the Fall Update finally makes "The Warriors" backwards-compatible.

@daftrok: That is a bit of a problem. Especially with the astronomical price of the 120 GB drive. I only intend to have one game on there at a time, tho, so I suppose it'll work out.

Is November 17th even really fall? Damn you Microsoft; no updates for a year, and now we get a Wii-clone when we finally do. Your XBL gold dollars at work.

I hope it can outdo the current dashboard. I would like to have a little mini-me, though.

@daftrok: I'm thinking that is part of the reason for ditching the 20GB and making 60GB the lowest HDD you can buy. Unfortunately, us 20 giggers seem to be out in the cold on this one.

@ezman:
I find that hard to believe. People will be swapping HDDs all the time. Why not a PARTIAL install? Most people only have 10 GB of space on their HDD to begin with.

I don't really understand how this is that much different than what we have now. Moving slides versus blades? I guess it's something to shake things up and keep the customers happy, but I couldn't care less about having an avatar a la Wii.
On a more positive note, I'm looking forward to putting games on my HDD :)

How pissed are people going to be if the themes and gamer pics they bought mean nothing? I'm sure they will be integrated somehow but still, it's Microsoft.

@ezman: The only game I'm installing to my HDD is Oblivion. I've had the game for 2 years now and gotten well over 80 hours of gameplay from it. Fun gameplay.
As far as I can tell, Oblivion is one of the best values in gaming history.

@ezman: I assume this is mainly for games with insane load times...Ex. GTA4, and imo Devil May Cry 4... every two seconds NOW LOADING.... wtf

@shalegac: WTF?
[gizmodo.com] from July 17. The day after the announcement, they showed what old themes 'may' look like on the new dashboard. Are you even reading the posts before you complain about Microsoft?
[www.xbox.com] from Oct 7. XBox.com shows how themes 'will' look (just like the way they 'may' look back in July) and reiterates that the old ones still work on the new dashboard.

@shalegac: Yeah. I'd be REALLY pissed if I could no longer use a theme or gamer pic worth $1. Outraged even. But its a good thing they'll work anyway, cause I'd hate to lose a freaking dollar.

@shiftyeyedgoat: and with this update it gives microsoft power to update the console when ever they want. no more waiting 6 months just to get a marketplace blade, video chat, or other things.
with the new dashboard, if ms decides to include a web browser the can give it do us once there finished working on it, or what ever else there working on.
btw... why are people so upset about this update, you know that avatars arnt the only thing that is coming. were getting a new primetime gaming mode, and also up to 8 person chat. and install of games on the hdd. im very pleased with this update, and am looking forward to it more than the last updates.
