Super Talent Releases Mini PCIe SSDs Specifically For ASUS Eee PCs
Posted by Adrian Covert at 9:45 AM on October 9, 2008
Super Talent launched a special series of mini PCIe SSDs for the ASUS Eee PC in 16, 32 and 64 GB sizes, meant to complement the 20 GB HDD found in some of the higher end models. The drives read at 40 mbps, write at 10 mbps and come in NAND MLC or NAND SLC configurations. The drives are expected to ship in November and will cost around $US55, $US80 and $US150 for the 16, 32 and 64 GB drives, respectively. [Super Talent via Electronista]

Kind of a silly question, but does the EEE PC have a free mini PCIe slot? or would you have to take out the wireless adapter(assuming that uses one)

@purple-pillows: It is a different type of technology all together.

@hatboysam: Yes, yes they do. At least that's what the website says.
I also have the 701. Might actually buy one, seems very good. I'll check eeeuser for reviews now.

Will this work with the original Eee PC 701? (Yes some of us actually have these)

is it just me or does that look like crappy ram memory dims?

@flynboarder07: There's supposed to be one under the memory access panel, but in my case (701 4G) the socket isn't soldered in. I can post pics if you care.

@flynboarder07: You would have to remove the D: drive in your eee pc to use one of these. You can then change the boot sequence and put the OS on this larger chip.

The write speed really needs to start climbing before I even consider an SSD. When it reaches about 20+ mbps, then I'll look into it.

Decent prices finally. This would be a good suppliment to my existing 701. :)
Flyin, if you have a early release 701, there is a riser on the mother board. Newer models had this removed. So for us early adopters who are miserable with the little 7 inch screen, we can at least update our HDD :)

someone buy it and try it! (not me)
from what i read the SSDs so far are all to slow with their write speeds or latent speeds or something like that and slows down your system..ie compared to a HDD.
i wanted to get an eeepc 1000 with the SSD and take out Linux and put in XP on the faster 8GB SSD...but everywhere i read they say unless you get the expensive new SSDs they really suck

Would something like this work in a regular laptop? I have a free PCIe slot in my Dell Vostro.
