Official HTC Touch HD Walkthrough Whets Our Appetites Further
Posted by John Mahoney at 1:30 AM on October 4, 2008
HTC has let loose this official video showing off the HTC Touch HD--and although it's more of a too-brief commercial than an actual walkthrough, it gives a quick look at browsing, maps and images on that glorious 3.8-inch 480x800 screen. And after this tease, why not take a look back at those lucky French who handled one on video? We're counting the days 'til the end of the year when this thing drops. [YouTube via Mobility Today]

This is the equivalent of the Holy Grail for me. I was soooo hoping someone would package together all of my wants and HTC have done it. With the Europe release date of November 6th now confirmed I am hoping that this will hit Australian stores in time for Xmas.
Move aside iPhone...Outta of the way Nokia N96. Give my new love some room!

Maybe its be, but I sure didn't get spongey looking at that. We already know browsers can swoosh and slide and do smooth stuff... so - why should I buy it?

I figure this will be $600 to $800 w/o a contract. I hope Tmobile picks them up in the US. Would be totally awesome. My only concern would be app support with this.
Apple has a large community that writes apps for their app store or cydia. But I've not heard much on the HTC or Xperia X1. My top two picks to replace my temporary iphone.

Mobile internet like never before? Really? Because it looked like any other MI device I've used.
My wildest fantasies come to life? Can I sure them for that one? As that certainly WILL NOT be the case with this phone.
So they just showed us a web browser, photos and movies. Hum...I can't put my finger on it but that sounds like MANY OTHER devices I've seen and used....hum....

ummmm... 5 MP autofocus camera, MicroSD card slot, 3.8 inch 800x480 screen, ATi Imageon GPU, G-sensor, light sensor...
the only things it's missing are a flash for the camera and multi touch and most people don't really care about multi-touch too much since it's only used to zoom in and out.
I think this will be a big hit.

@Thorin78: There are over 14,000 WiMo apps (and heck they aren't all flashlight or lightsaber apps either!).
Microsoft was giving away the tools years ago (yes, with an emulator too) and all of their Pro level development tools comes with WiMo support in the box.

@DarkHavoc99: No disrespect, but you're kind of missing something here. The software that you're seeing *now* was written on WiMo. The OS isn't the user experience.
The fact is that Windows Mobile, is Windows CE, which is a platform used in a huge number of embedded OS devices, not just phones, and it's very stable and sturdy.
So, if your complaint is that the apps that come with WiMo are crappy - well, I'd disagree, although I will concede they're a touch unpolished, but if you're suggesting that there's something lacking in the OS that means you can't do what Android does or most of what iPhone OS can - well, sorry - you're wrong.
That being said, iPhone OS does have one huge advantage over WiMo that Android doesn't - it's far more a complete desktop OS. On the other hand, it needs a minimum of 250MB to live in - and really wants up to 700MB. WiMo only needs 32MB.
Or in other words, iPhone OS is bloatware. Which proves that more isn't always bad.

@undefined:
I've never had a WiMo phone so I'm certainly looking forward to this. I purchased my iphone cuz it would work on T-mobile and my old SE phone broke. It's been relatively easy to get apps because there is a convenient location to do so.
So is there an interface in the HTC or X1 to download these 14000 apps? I have no idea, why don't you guys reference something.
