No Nintendo DSi In Australia Until Late 2009

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 10:00 AM on October 7, 2008

This news shouldn't surprise anyone, but Nintendo Australia have confirmed that there are no short term plans to release the DSi Down Under, and we're probably looking at a "late 2009" shipping date. And with the recent news that the DSi content will be region locked, it looks like the DS Lite is still the handheld of choice for Australian gamers this Christmas. Unless the PSP starts releasing some decent games, that is...

I applauded Nintendo in late 2006 when they released the Wii here at the same time as everywhere else, instead of doing a Sony, who at the time had just announced a delay in the Australian launch of the PS3.

That delay made me go with a 360 instead of the PS3 and I've never looked back.

Late 2009? Fail Nintendo, Fail. I was considering picking up one of these DSi's, but now I'll get a PSP instead.

Oh no! That's really annoying. I've already spoken to most of my friends and they say that the second the DSi comes out in Aus. that they'll get their hands on one. Come on Nintendo!

Has Nintendo Australia actually said when it's coming out or is that a guess.

you wont be able to get one from overseas though "the DSi content will be region locked", unless you wont to try getting all your DSi things from overseas that it. i was hoping to get one for myself this christmas, but alas i wont be, too bad Nintendo, bad move.

australia is in the same region block as many parts of europe, including the uk, which means that region-locked hardware and software can be imported form there.

the last i heard the dsi was set for a concurrent release in oz and europe, sometime after japan (november 08) and the states (april 09).
