Nintendo DSi Adds Camera, Larger Screen

Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 3:06 PM on October 2, 2008

As expected, Nintendo has announced a new version of its DS, called the Nintendo DSi. While the machine no longer has a GBA slot, it's added a 640x480 camera, "audio enhancements" (like the ability to adjust pitch and playback), a 17% bigger screen (measuring in at 3.25 inches), and an SD memory card slot for storing games and easy picture uploading.

The DSi will also feature built-in browsers and a DSi shop. Pricing categories at the shop for DsiWare include Free, 200 points, 500 points, and a "Premium" 800 points. New DSi owners will get 1000 points to spend at the DSi Shop before March 2010. I. Want. It. Now. Get the rest of the story from our brother-in-arms, Kotaku (and click their digg badge above)! No GBA slot? How will I play Guitar Hero On Tour on that?! I'll have to find a new way to give myself carpal tunnel syndrome now.

I liek the nintendo DSi.It seems like a better console compared to past models and gives users better use over it instead of just playing games.

a videogame console is for videogames. Not multimedia. Why bother with this when you can use an acekard 2 for your music and videos? or a phone as a camera? this is just nintendo chucking a sony on everyone.

I'll be getting one, definately, but that camera on the lid is such an eyesore. I guess getting a black DSi would be smarter.

I bet it will have all this piracy stuff on it so you cant just get games 4 free of the net.

having a camera like that on the front is a good idea, but only 3 megapixels?! I know its better than nothing, and gives nintendo something to boast about, but you might as well take you own camera with you if you where going somewhere to take photos
