LG TV Boxed.jpgSee that TV above? It’s a brand new, 42-inch LCD from LG. And next week, one of you will own it.

See, This week, I’m going to take it out of its box and review it here on Giz. Then, once I’m done, I’m going to box it back up and we’re going to hold a little competition. Something tough. You guys are going to enter, and one of you will walk away with the prize - a new LCD TV.

What I want from you guys in the meantime is a few ideas on what we should do for this competition. Don’t bother saying “just give it to me”, either – that just means you won’t win when it comes to the crunch. Let your creative juices run free and let me know what you reckon in comments.

How about potential shiny new TV owners submit a one paragraph pitch for what they think will make the most awesome TV show ever.

How about photos of televisions in interesting places. Crazy juxtapositions! Could be a means of getting really creative entries.

Get people doing a little mathematics.

    I looked up the serial: its a 42lg70yd. That’s a 1920 x 1080p TV right there.

Get people to work out exactly how many pixels that is and the first person to email you the answer: 2073600 wins the set!

    Easy!!

..wait. Sorry. Umm. Want my address?

How about… Who can do the best Photoshop of the said TV in question, and put it in the most interesting/useful place around their home?

How about a “Why you wouldnt buy this TV” Competition.

In 50 words or less give reasons why this 42LG70YD TV would be at the bottom of your purchase list.

In a bit of a twist to the good ol’ how many jelly beans in the jar game we could guess the combined weight of all the packaging inside of the box.

Write a review of the current TV you’d like to be superseded by this one..

Find who deserves it more. Like ask for current setup of home ent systems and give the TV to who needs/deserves it most. I don’t mean some poor people who send in a black and white picture of a 34cm tv with computer speakers welded into it though.
Like a nice media setup already happening that has been built by a dedicated nerd that deserves to have a nice TV to compliment it.

Don’t let new fancy, fully functioning modern tv’s be enough to forget this dying artform.

Hey Nick how about sending in a photo of the TV you use at the moment and giving it to the person who has the smallest TV or something like that.

How about we send in a picture or video of our current woefully inadequate and desperatly dated TV with a blurb on why we wants it my precious?

Jeez, it’d have to be a pretty sweet idea to make you want to part with it.
How about a design competition where you have to make a dog house out of the cardbox it ships in, or just just a cool fort outta cardboard?

You could always do the old “in 25 words or less…” How about asking us to describe what our idea of the ultimate use/viewing/etc of this sweet TV would be? Or what would be the fisrt thing we view on it and why, incorporating the sweet specs of the unit?

    Cheers

Considering the drain plasmas make on the earth’s finite resources, why not ask for the most efficient way people will generate energy, plausible or not, to run their TV!

Just get everyone to write gizmodo posts. Select the top 10-20 of the blogs and post them online over a week (disguise them among the US and Aus posts). Each post can then get a score based on quality, views, comments, diggs etc, and negative scores for number of words that need to be edited etc..

Perhaps block NSFW material as these would be unfair.. I recently heard that Australians prefer spending their lunch times looking at porn..
