New Pics Surface of Anonymous Apple Laptop
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 6:29 PM on October 9, 2008
Taiwanese blog Apple.Pro has put out a couple more pictures that could be related to the upcoming Macbook Pro. We're not sure if they're real or not, but there are enough photos out there to at least mostly rule out Photoshop. While the new pictures resemble case images we saw earlier, it looks to be designed for a smaller laptop and lacks their speaker grills.
The keyboard seems to be identical to the MacBook Air, but with a larger trackpad. The left side houses all the ports (much like the earlier photo), while the right side has a slot for the optical drive. Apple.Pro is responsible for previous case images as well, but only time will tell how accurate their tips are. [Apple Pro via Mac Rumors]

I'm looking to buy a new MBP as an xmas present for the other half. It'll be good if the rumored refresh materialises and they have a new keyboard which resolves the 'ELP!...keyboard problem still persists' issue which I and many other users experience.
Oh, and a lid which properly swivels back more than the current MBPs would be a bonus too. This current design doesn't bother me too much, but for my little lady it's very nearly a dealbreaker.

I really would like something smaller. A 12" would be nice. I know it's only an inch, but it makes all the difference! Bring back the 12" Powerbook!

Well, that looks more like a new MacBook.
I think it is entirely possible that Apple drops that whole MB/MBP-distinction in a few days.
Perhaps there will be the MBA and the MB in 13, 15 and 17" flavours.

Maybe an new Macbook? If it's a smaller case it makes sense. People have been talking about the aluminum macbook for a while so maybe we're getting hyped for the wrong machine?

@duncypoo: Wouldn't it be better to have an "aired" 15" Mac Book, that is thinner as a feather. A 15,4" screen makes a whole difference

@braddanick:
Technically that would be new...

All macbooks need are graphics cards! To me that's the only real difference between MBs and MBPs, processor isnt that big of a deal if you've got heaps of RAM.

@faunaman: Nope. The form factor of a 12" MacBook (especially in Aluminum pants) would be near-Netbook, but still as awesome as a fullsize laptop.
The Air is an overpriced toy. A sexy toy I want, but a toy nonetheless.

@mangochutney: Wishful thinking!
I think the MBs will be very much small MBPs, with the lower spec, etc to allow the rumoured price drops to be true (fingers crossed, anyway).
If that is the case (in both senses), I'll be interested to see if they differentiate the Pro line in any other way, besides the processor, memory, HDD etc. Visually, that is. Hoping they'll have a new trick up their sleeve.
I'll still just settle for price drops across the board, though. I'm well aware of the slow-creep update of Apple machines, the rumours are more likely true the more mundane they are.

That top view pic looks to have the same dimensions of the MacBook I am typing on now, just aluminumier.

I really hope that its only going to be a MacBook because with that design it means that the speakers on the MacBook Pro are being replaced with the crapy ones on the MacBook.

@J France: I did 4 national park programs a week, with full animations and movies, driving two monitors, with my "toy" this summer. Incredibly capable machine, not for high end gaming, but very capable otherwise.

Well now I am more confident in this rumor.
Firstly, this looks as if it would be the MacBook and is similar enough to that other picture we saw a few days ago but is wider with grilles on each side of the keyboard.
Secondly, it does look like a cut out single piece of aluminium for the top and all sides.
Thirdly, isn't the side slot for inserting the DVD kind of Apple's "trademark" ?

Sigh..... The MBP is getting the same keyboard as the MBA. I don't like that keyboard....

@braddanick: It's a Macbook, you can tell by the hinge. Macbook Pro's arent hinged like that.

I think that Apple should come out with a sub-notebook like everyone else. That would be the only reason I would ever get a mac. ie. you don't play games on a sub-notebook and it would have to be cheap to match the genre.

@Jrsy is the dude, playing the dude, disguised as another du...: That's unfortunate. I like the 'chicklet' keyboards and have been waiting for almost a yeat now for the MBP redesign to have them. It is, after all, the only computer in their product line that doesn't have the new keyboards, it was going to happen sooner or later.

@OMG! Ponies!: Fun, isn't it criticizing a product that doesn't even exist?
