Microsoft NXE Deal Upgrades Your Xbox 360 Memory For Less
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 4:20 PM on October 14, 2008
Afraid your Xbox doesn't have enough memory for the New Xbox Experience? So is Microsoft, and they're willing to sell you the storage space you need for a much reduced price. You can now log on to the company's Xbox site to see if you're eligible for one of their special memory upgrade offers. Under their deal, a 20GB hard drive will run you $US20--not bad, considering Microsoft usually sells it for closer to $US80. [- Thanks Adam!]

Then from the drop down menu in the top right of the screen where it says "select default or country region" just select Australia.

Maybe it's time to fork over those $220 for a new XBOX. I'm still stuck with last gen except for Wii.

So, if I'm reading this right... go buy an Arcade, get a Premium for $20 extra?

@daftrok: The Arcade comes with a wireless controller too (although no headset.)
Either way, they're awesome machines for the price. I don't even play games very much on mine. The multimedia functionality alone is worth the price and will only get better with the new additions, Netflix, etc. The fact they even play games is pure gravy IMO.

how about i trade my xbox 360 and they give me one with a HDMI port. I cant believe they didnt have that on mine, and i bought it a year after the release.

Worked great for me (recently bought an Arcade thanks to the price drop and technically had enough space on my storage card, but it still allowed me to purchase at the discounted price.)
I honestly didn't NEED a hard drive. I've been using my Xbox 95+% of the time as Media Center extender to replace my previous HTPC. But considering how cheap this was that's too good a deal to pass up. Will allow to download the occasional movie, Guitar Hero/Rock Band songs, etc.

@diabolusunknownTheSecond:
And the Premium comes with a headset, a wireless controller and component cables.

I'm happy they are doing this, it would be better if that message was pushed to their xbox or in stores or something so people would know.
Now all they need to do is drop the price on that 120 GB Hard Drive so I can buy it and I'll be set.
Wait nevermind they have it at Amazon for 139.99. It's not that much cheaper than 149.99 but I can deal.

20GB is all you really need. I bought a 20GB Pro for $199.99 a few weeks ago. But those who buy an arcade won't have the component cables or the headset, instead they will have a useless 256mb memory card.

Damn, I thought they were giving people with 20GB bigger hard drives. damn.
But, I got an interesting error message "According to our records you own a console which has enough memory to connect to Xbox LIVE and live the new Xbox Experience. The next time you turn on your Xbox 360 console and connect to Xbox LIVE you will receive the update. Have fun!"
I've tried restarting my 360 twice now, and no update D=
I feel violated, I really wanted the update.

From what someone told me, it seems that this website is not supposed to be up yet.... Not until around the Nov 19th I guess

Pretty good deal I guess.. Still 20GB isn't much once you start getting into games like Rock Band & Guitar Hero. You get a 20GB, but only about 13GB of it is free space. My Rock Band alone takes up over 4GB. They need to drop the prices on the 120GB drives!

@Glare: Wii is last gen... its just a PS2 with a motion sensing controller. Oh and it looks worse than my PS2 on an HDTV.
It would be a good time to upgrade though, and the funny thing is that you can get a new Arcade 360, 256mb memory card, 20gb Hard drive, 1 year warranty, and a few free arcade games for the same price as a used 20gb Xbox 360 at Game Crazy (I don't shop at Gamestapo).

I'm not eligible. I hooked up my premium 20gb drive to my arcade unit. 6 of 1 anyway, I wouldn't have bought the 2nd 20gb drive anyway... I'd rather get a 60gb or if I could find it cheaper the 120 drive and put the 20gb back in the premium.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the bump in HDD size...
I knew that I had to have something wrong in there.
Either way, yeah, wow.

@Woden501: The Wii isn't a PS2, more like an N64 :P
My Wii looks decent on my tv, better than my old PS2, but then again I have a pretty good Samsung ;) - who thought I would get to rave about them twice in one day.

@UnderLoK: It's not a PS2 or an N64. It's a Game Cube. Almost literally.

Hey Microsoft! How about giving those of us who actually bought a system with the 20gb drive a discount on upgrading to a 60gb? Yeah right. Like that would ever happen...

i'm not really sure how they know there is enough memory on the console. my console is a core system, and i just purchased a hard drive separately. so wouldn't my SN and ID show it as a core system with no memory?

Just went ahead and entered my XBox info and got the following message: "According to our records you own a console which has enough memory to connect to Xbox LIVE and live the new Xbox Experience. The next time you turn on your Xbox 360 console and connect to Xbox LIVE you will receive the update. Have fun!" Update imminent?

even for the low, low price of 220 (aka almost 1/3 of the price of my ps3 when i got it), i'm still not tempted to buy one.
