MacBook and MacBook Pro Repair Document Leaked, Confirms 'Late 2008' Update
Posted by Jesus Diaz at 7:39 AM on October 13, 2008
In case you needed more, here's a proof that seems to completely confirm that--as expected--both the MacBook and MacBook Pro will be updated this Tuesday at the Apple MacBook 2008 event in Cupertino, where heads may be rolling after a PDF document referring to the "MacBook/MacBook Pro (Late 2008)" line was accidentally posted today in their support site. The document--now gone from Apple servers--details the full procedure for replacing the display in the new notebooks. [MacRumors]

Logic board is a small change. I'm talking about serious changes that matter to the consumer. Visible changes.

@jewsrock:
every revision with even little changes like wiring, capacitor location and the such will get it's own (early/mid/late year) separation. the logic boards that the late 2007 and early 2008 are significantly different and completely incompatible when switched

@A-Veev:
to access the airport card? all you have to remove (on both models) is the battery, ram door (on macbook) and top case...nothing involving the display at all

The fact that it says "Late 2008" means the update is very small. Like how they call the 5th Generation iPod "iPod Video" but they call the 5.5G iPods "iPod Video (Late 2006)".

Guys, in all fairness to the rumor mill, there's no reason to get into a tizzy about this one. It wasn't too revealing, and aside from the "late '08" part of it, everything the document revealed is known.
The tagline of the invitations is "the spotlight turns to notebooks" -- So assuming that the Macbook, Pro or Air are going to get some attention is pretty safe.

actually, this part was peculiar: It says to install airport card on replacement display assembly. Did they move it from where it was originally to the display?

The document revealed absolutely nothing technical at all. It simply referenced wi-fi all over the place, which is nothing new.

Hey. I've had loads of problems with Apple, including 3rd degree burns to my leg and a nasty bloated battery. But I really enjoy the products overall. On the other hand at most schools and work places windows is forced upon you. Like that awful ribbon in Office. But hey, you probably aren't forced to used a mac so why so much hate? Dislike I understand, but hating takes a lot of energy!

@ZetaCrossfire: 8 iPods in a six month period still sounds like mighty bad odds. After the second or third time around, I would've been wary of making the jump again. How did you manage to go through that many without being a bit more hesitant?
Also, how did they taste?

if Apple put this on-purpose then it mean one thing, "We, Apple, are not producing anything new like people expected, just a case redesign"
People here on Giz and AppleInsider are expecting new Macbook only line, but with this leak, Apple is saying it (whispering) we will not merge the lines, its only a small update u dumb a%^@^%

@jewsrock:
So, according to you, the switch to Intel was a small change because it wasn't visible? I would have to disagree. Significant changes don't constitute visual changes, and visa verse. Most significant changes are hardware changes that can't be seen without taking the device apart. For instance, if they had a "one more thing" moment at the end of Tuesday's keynote and said "The iPhone will now come in 32 gig flavors", that would be a significant change, and yet not visible. But if they said "The iPhone will now come in purple, blue, and yellow", I would in no way consider that significant, but it would be very visible. Now, which one do you think would be matter more to the consumer? I'm gonna go with the 32 gig upgrade. But that's just me.

Isn't step one normally remove the battery, or the topcase, or something like that, this is indicating that the clutch cover for the display would be on the outside of the machine, or that this article is completely fake.

Somethings starting to bug me... This apple secrecy things, the random "oh oops I've shown them what we're doing" things keep happening right before events. I think the whole "leaks" thing is pretty much controlled by apple. IE "Hey our stocks aren't moving much" "yer, should we release a little teaser for what's to come?" "That sounds great, it'll get everyone hyped and talking about us".
