Logitech Wireless Vantage Mic, So Your 'Fans' Can't Hang Themselves
Posted by Mark Wilson at 4:00 AM on October 8, 2008
For when cords limit your artistic freedom (or screeching Rock Band karaoke), Logitech has announced a wireless version of their Vantage microphone (old model pictured here). Syncing via 2.4GHz frequencies, the Vantage can connect to PC, Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 through a USB dongle that holds (but doesn't charge) the mic when not in use. Operating for 20 hours from distances of 30 feet, the wireless Vantage will be available this December for $US80. But until someone releases a decent wireless mic that transmodulates my voice to Seal's, I'm not buying.
Logitech - To give gamers greater freedom and high-quality voice reproduction, Logitech today announced the Logitech® Cordless Vantage™ Microphone - featuring an authentic, professional design.
With more than 20 hours of battery life, gamers can perform encore after encore while minimizing the hassle of changing batteries.
Offering a range of up to 30 feet, the microphone uses 2.4 GHz wireless technology and can be easily set up with its convenient USB receiver. The USB receiver also holds the mic when not in use.
The wireless microphone is compatible with PLAYSTATION®3, PlayStation®2 and Xbox 360™.
The Logitech Cordless Vantage Microphone is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe in December for a suggested retail price of $79.99 (U.S.).

This would be great for Rock Band if it didn't cost $80. I'd rather save $60 and get a crappy $20 wired mic. Also, I'm wondering if this thing has the same delay issue as the wireless guitar. If so, you'd have to calibrate that as well, if there is even an option for mic delay in Rock Band.

However, this will certainly help me with being able to reach the mic from the wheelchair (a necessary accessory when you're doing songs by Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld in Rockband) for effect.

"With more than 20 hours of battery life"
20hrs? Now, that's not being hardcore, that's just plain dedication!

As a child my sister had one of these, and would stand around singing and dancing in front of my childhood stereo system that would light up according to the music, or well her squealing. It stopped working so well once I figured out how to remove the turntable to the unit and unplug the antenna for the radio. I think I was about 9 or 10 when I figured this out.
I think I still have my 45 of the McDonalds "Big Mac Theme Song" around here somewhere.

@brandoshido: When are they going to come out with a wireless cowbell or tambourine attachment?

@Alex7575: Apparently you've never sat and listened to someone sing American Pie... I think that song has some sort of temporal affect as it just goes on for freaking ever. The dedication is in the people who have to listen to your off-key singing after their beer runs low.

At 2.4ghz a 1400 watt microwave can knock this out when it's in use, so be careful if you plan on using it anywhere near the kitchen.
I personally would tough it out with a corded USB headset, keeping the mic a set distance from your lips makes recordings much more steady sounding. You cordless phone may also interfere with it, same frequency but some phones have a channel selector to avoid this.

Because it's awfully hard to beat-box on a headset mic!
