LG Prada II Officially Decent, Expensive and Faaaabulous
Posted by John Herrman at 8:11 PM on October 13, 2008
LG and Prada have just sent out a pre-announcement for the upcoming Prada II, sequel to the companies' first touchscreen lovechild that was released well over a year ago. Stand-out features include a 5MP camera, FM radio, 7.2Mbps HSDPA 850/2100 (hey, North American importers) and Wi-Fi. The rest of the tech specifications pretty much match the leaked list, but offer little to distinguish the phone from the growing crowd of pop-out QWERTY touchscreen phones.
In fact, the omission of GPS and decision to stick with the decent but none-too-powerful LG/Prada OS make the €600 asking price sound slightly goofy. That said, if you're tired of sacrificing QWERTYness for prettiness, well, here you go. It should be available "before the end of the year" but it'll be Europe only, at least at first. That keyboard looks nice. But I don't like the design all that much.

I think Giz is just looking for another sponsor.
And am I the only one who thinks "Pravda" (a.k.a. Правда - "The Truth") when he hears Prada?

I wonder how much less it would cost without the licensing fee to Miuccia and Patrizio Bertelli? And people complain about the "Apple Tax."

That looks rather spiffy indeed. A clean, crisp design, good specs, no GPS is kind of a surprise and wi-fi is a plus.
Me, I'll wait for this to filter down so these specs are in a $100 Virgin Mobile phone in three years, but this'll have a decent high-end market. The Prada line has been surprisingly.. high-design over being merely blingy.

I had the old one for 6 mo. before I lost it somewhere and got the Georgio Armani phone (Samsung). Prada was cheaply built plastic compared to the GA Samsung :( The plastic trim was easily worn and the touch screen was not very responsive. All that said the KB on this one looks awesome as typing is a PITA on these phones.

I don't understand why people buy these overpriced gimmiks in the first place, I mean they don't really offer antything than something at even half the price does. The only thing you're acrually paying for it the Prada logo on the thing.
Shure, the iPhone is a bit overpriced, specially here in Finland, but what do you get for your money? The best darn cellphone OS ever made (according to some), and what do you get by buying this instead of something at half or even a quarter of the price? Nothing, exept a Prada logo that tells anyone with even a little bit of sence that you're an idiot...

so much space is waste. The screen should be much bigger
