Leaked HTC T8290 Has Touch HD Resolution, WiMax, Sharp Corners
Posted by John Herrman at 8:47 PM on October 10, 2008
These images of a new HTC handset from Nedge2k reveal a surprising addition to the Taiwanese company's line: a half Touch HD, half Touch Diamond handset for which WiMax — of all things — is the most salient feature. Such a product might not make sense in most places, but Russia already has more than 20 million people soaking in their WiMax networks and other compatible phones in the pipeline.
You can see from the screens that the connection speed is over 13Mbps, and the front camera indicates (predictable) 3G capabilities to complement just about every other type of connection a phone could have. With the relative newness of America's WiMax infrastructure it's unlikely that we'll see this phone here, but it would be an awfully good way to atone for depriving us of our Touch HD. Wow. If HTC is able to drop two stellar phones in the same time frame, I wonder what else they're hiding up their sleeves!

The sharp corners are a really bad idea.

See, this is what you get when your patient and you wait. This is a pretty nice phone. I wonder how fast the connection will be in the states. So far, the fastest I've heard XOHM WiMax do in the states is 5-6Mbps on a computer. We all know that we won't see anywhere near that type of speed on a phone due to the insufficient RAM.

The design I'm not liking too much. But hopefully they can get this on XOHM, since the Touch HD was a no go. And if it does come to the U.S., Sprint will alter the design, just like how they did with the Diamond.

@bx718: Indeed Sprint yes please!
My Verizon contract is up Dec 2nd this year... would love to just port over to this (or the Touch HD) by that time.

that fone sucks you can't even read what the screen says! Something is wrong with the text!!!
Just kidding.
For-real though, I'm with t-mobile and every day that they don't yet have 3-G in my market, a little piece of me dies. I really want a cool fast, touch screen phone with t-mobile. Now don't hate, just give me your pity...

From specs and pics and clips I've seen, HTC Touch HD makes the iPhone look like child's play.

A very sad copied "Settings" from iPhone. Funny how they showed it in russian, thinking no one understands it. Even wording is so copied from iPhone. iPhuked.

@ANoel: I'm sorry, but this complaint is getting annoying. When MacWorld '09 comes around and they announce the iPhone HD or iPhone 4G or whatever the hell they decide to call it, you can bet it'll have that screen. the iPhone 3G was a lame 1.5 update, nothing revolutionary. Granted they have a little catch-up to do, but shouldn't be too difficult

@midwestkel: well the chances of this or the HD coming to America are slim. No loss. Except that you payed money for a phone with Windows mobile AFTER you already no about Iphone and Android. But this interface that they are covering up Windows Mobile with aint to bad.

@Log1c: YES. We need one of these really nice phones for android on SPRINT. The G1 looks like they didnt plan it at all. Touch screen. Add a keyboard. Add a ugly chin. Put them in a random order. And we have the G1. If they could get this phone or the HD into the States than to Google, than to SPrint, my prayers would be answered. Front camera looks awesome. Windows mobile not so much.
