iPod Nano Switches Left and Right Channels With Headphone Insert
Posted by Wilson Rothman at 8:40 AM on October 11, 2008
If you have a new 4th-gen nano and a decent ear, you may have noticed something funny: After putting it to sleep, if you wake it up by inserting headphones, the left and right channels switch. I tried this with the most obvious stereo mix of all time, David Bowie's "Space Oddity," and it's really easy to duplicate yourself. While it's easy to correct, it's still definitely a weird, weird bug. Thanks to reader Matt for bringing it to our attention, and posting a thread at iLounge. Have you noticed it or any other weird glitches, like Genius' pathological avoidance of the lovely Norah Jones? (I'm serious, try it!)

In regards to the Genius function in iTunes not playing some tracks, when I try and start a Genius playlist with specific track that has a remix of the same track on the album, iTunes always chooses the other remix over the track I am trying to play.. strange bugs.

What killed me about this piece is that I use "Space Oddity" for all my stereo testing, too. I thought I was fancy, or smart, or special. Now I feel...common. Thanks. I'm going to go have myself a cry.

The 4g often freeze after you get congratulated by a celebrity in a Nike+ workout. Your workout will then be lost.

I noticed the new Touch has a problem with photos saved from emails or the web. In short the photos look blurry. The same photos on a Gen 1 Touch or an iPhone will look just fine. As a test, try taking a picture with an iPhone. Email it to the touch. In the email app the photo will look fine. Once you save it and look at it in the photo app....looks like ass.

I know its not the same, but I think My iPhone starts playing music if its plugged in to the ac adapter and I plug in headphones.

I have problems w/ my iPhone's headphone detection. Sometimes when I take *out* my headphones it starts playing.... through the speaker, making my quickly attempt to quiet the Barry Manilow/Tupac mash-up blaring out of it.

My friend has one and if you turn it to the right so it shows the cover flow, and then turn it on it's other side the albums (or the words) are still upside down.
Also, has anyone had any problems with texts and the iPhone?

@1timeonly: You're lucky then, cuz it won't work in this house. As far as what we get, we get nothing but the warm-fuzzy feeling that the cute little piano-playin' songstress is reaching even more people. Except for the damn Genius inside my damn nano!

Saying, "First!" doesn't mean you'll get banned. It's a bannable offense if it's the only thing you say.
@roflwaffles:
The echo chamber that is the blogosphere is a cacophony of Apple fanboyism with a faint undertone of the pained moans and cries of Apple haters. Every blog is packed with a substantial and vocal population of Apple fanboys. It's otherwise a sort of Hell for Apple haters.

this is a 1g nano bug, but if you put it to sleep and wake it up pressing a button on the ipod radio/remote, it wakes up at full volume! I'm either gonna go deaf or die from a heart attack one of these days.

I mean, it's not like you can just switch earplugs around and... no wait, yes it is.
Never mind.

There's much bigger flaws with the new Nano, like the fact that Apple removed its ability to charge from Firewire.
This means that the vast majority of accessories out there (all with Apple's big shiny "Made for iPod" logo) will not charge my new iPod.
