Guitar Hero: World Tour Gets Deluxe $US240 Version, Rips You Off
Posted by Adam Frucci at 12:45 AM on October 8, 2008
If you're looking to pick up Guitar Hero: World Tour when it comes out on October 26th, you'll have a choice between the wussy regular edition and the awesome deluxe edition. While yes, we may be headed for an economic depression, you'll still want to spend the extra $US50 on the deluxe edition. It comes with a keychain!
It also comes with two t-shirts! And a couple recharge kits! And a gig bag! And nothing else! That's right, $US50 for a bunch of crap you'll never use. All for $US240, more than the cheapest version of the console it's meant to be played on.
Seriously RedOctane, I know that deluxe editions are all the rage these days, but you can't really think your customers are so stupid as to drop $US50 on a couple of shirts and a keychain, can you? [RedOctane via Kotaku]

What are you complaining about?
Its still cheaper than aus, and possibly rock band.

Yeah, this has to be some fancy business logic. If they expect World Tour to sell out, it makes sense that they would create a product at a larger pricepoint and profit for the company producing it.
Mom and dad will find out that all of the units have gone to preorders and will be forced to buy the higher priced version. They won't feel bad about it because they're giving the "deluxe" version rather then the lower priced (but equally valued) sold out version.
Christmas sales numbers will be down and gouge-and-screw tactics like this aren't helping anything.

Yeah, but people were talking about canceling their Fable 2 pre-orders when the first Limited Edition cuts were discussed, namely some tarot-ish cards and a little Hobbe figure.
Some folks just like/need junk with their games.

$240! Throw in an Xbox360 in the package, and you got yourself a buyer!

FWIW, the Wii version is only $220, but it doesn't come with recharge kits, so in my book that's more of a ripoff.

They need to put the word "Collectible" on the package somewhere, and raise the price $10

That being said, expect these to sell out. Quickly.

Only two t-shirts? Shouldn't you get four - one for each member of the band? And it should come with a large selection of iron-on patterns and letters.

At some point this RB/GH crap has got to stop. I don't have the room or the money to buy more plastic instruments. Trouble is, they keep updating just enough to make the purchase seem almost reasonable.
I bought the RB2 guitar solo with RB2 seeing as I allready had one wired RB1 guitar, mic, and drums and it looks more realistic and the frets and strum bar actually were improved a good deal. That and it's wireless where the one from my RB1 combo wasn't. Now should I also get the RB2 drumset when I have a perfectly working RB1 drumset? If so, should I get the cymbal pack later even though, from what I hear, it doesn't add new "buttons" but re-maps existing ones?
As I understand it, the GH drumset actually has 6 working inputs (3 pads, 2 cymbals, foot pedal) where the RB drumset even with the cymbals, only manages a meager 5 by comparison. Is that right?
Are Rock Band periphs still not going to be compatible with GH games? I see no reason to have two drumsets and even more guitars just to play both. This stuff is fun but expensive to keep upgrading. Unless they can think of something substantial to add, I hope these are the last instruments they come out with.

Uh... Activision just confirmed this pricing structure:
* $190 for the full band kit on PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
* $180 for the full band kit on PS2.
* $100 for the guitar/game bundle on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.
* $90 for the guitar/game bundle on PS2.
Joystiq already posted this story yesterday guys.

@fsusmithc2: Dude, you're thinking way too much about this.
Blame Red Octane and Activision for kicking out the original GH badasses. I'd go with RB2 and forget the rest.

@cash907: Ummm you did READ the article, right?? It clearly states that this bundle is $50 MORE than the full band kit.... I am not sure how more clear it could have been... Maybe we could have Giz create a a view (just for you) that makes every thing posted appear in Crayon like text and drawings. Would that help?

@fsusmithc2: All GH:WT instruments should work with RB and visa-versa. Even the older RB or GH gear will work with the newer RB or GH. It won't be full featured though.

I'd like to see the shirts, if they're like the Rock Band shirts and it comes with one for each instrument I might just might consider it.
