Ergonomic HandshoeMouse Is Like A Bed For Your Fingers
Posted by John Herrman at 9:40 PM on October 6, 2008
Or a shoe, if the name is anything to go by, though I've always preferred the term "glove" to "handshoe." But that's neither here nor there, and despite its name the Hippus HandshoeMouse looks pretty fantastic. Ergonomic mice often fall into different=better trap, simply offering you a new contorted position in which to place your hands. This mouse is designed such that it isn't so much gripped as it is laid upon, contouring to the natural at-rest position of your hand. Available in black, white and clear finishes, the HandshoeMouse sells for a hefty $US120, but you can't put a price on and comfort. Well, I mean, obviously you can, but it's somewhere at or above $US120. [HotHardware via Engadget]

@papaguru: on an unrelated subject: this is the second time today I've had to track back to the source to get accurate info.
We're not setting a trend here, are we? Hm?

Ehm... that's 120 EUR (quite a lot more than $120, i.e. no less than $163.48, to be exact), but the most important omission is that it comes in ... [drumroll] ... three sizes!
Would this finally be the mouse that's big enough for my paws?

@OMG! Ponies!: This was just nasty. Nasty, you hear?
But on a different note.
For $120,- I 'd expect a mouse to be custom molded for my hand.
That price is a rip-off, IMO.
As for comfort it'll probably lie somewhere in between my trusty old MX518 and the Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 I used in university for a while.

Looks pretty but the name kills the marketability. Perhaps they should pursue negotiations to obtain the rights to use the iBeatBlaxx brand name.

The pricing information on the Hippus website clearly says: Pricing: North America and Canada $119.95 (Funny I thought Canada was a part of North America) Rest of the World â¬119.95 So to answer your question, no you are not noticing a trend here.

@WiglyWorm: I'm using this right now:
As you can see, it's old enough to have come with a PS2 connector adapter (kids, ask your grandparents about PS2 connectors) and it boasts that it was "Designed for Windows XP. It works fine in Vista and, after more than 6 years, functions flawlessly.

@AccaliaAncaeus: Well, that's my mistake for not tracking further back than the original website listed here on the Giz (which only mentions the EUR 120 price, btw).
But I thing the shipping costs are relevant, too:
Netherlands: free (total price EUR 120 or $163)
Rest op Yurp: EUR 9,50 (total EUR 129,50 or $176)
US + Canada: $20 (total EUR 103 or $140)
Rest of world: EUR 15 (total EUR 135 or $184)
Which means that I'd have to pay a whopping EUR 17 more for this Dutch product (despite being located in the NL) than people buying it in another continent.
Bah.

@OMG! Ponies!: Well, the "Handshoe" is an anglicized version of the German word for Glove, which is kinda-sorta alluded to in the article. (In German I think it's spelld "handschuh".) So it's a mouse that fits like a glove, I reckon.
Which reminds me - Did you hear about the man with five "members?" His shorts fit like a glove.

OMG!
Back in the 90s I owned a mouse called the Mouseman 4+ by logitech. It was, and remains to this day the most ergonomically beautiful mouse I have ever had the pleasure of using. It has long since bit the dust, but this "hand-shoe" as they call it appears to borrow nearly all the important design elements.
$120 is far more than I would pay for a mouse, and white is not my color, but if/when the price comes down, I would strongly consider purchasing this mouse.

I call bullshit. The only thing that's like a bed for my fingers is the Liliputin bed I picked up on my trip overseas.

If it's a bed for your fingers will it make your hand fall asleep?

Nice... unfortunately, chances are this mouse will never reach terra Brazillis.
I'm waiting a long time to get my hands on those fancy ergonomic mouse... like that one shaped like a joystick, or the one that's exactly like a regular mouse but sideways...
But they never come to Brazil. Too expensive, the import taxes are too high, and there's just not enough people interested in it.

hand shoe....
does that mean it will stink over time? and can it be made of leather just to give that really bad musty smell?

No side buttons? Useless.
Plus, a lot of people pick up the mouse.

I hear they're going to build in a HandshoePhone. At least, that's what they'd like you to believe.
