Dell Preloading Select Computers with Iron Man
Posted by Mark Wilson at 4:31 AM on October 1, 2008
We love Iron Man and really have nothing bad to say about the guy. But we were surprised to hear that customers who are personalising their Dell's Inspiron, Studio or XPS will have the options to bump up the RAM, upgrade the video card and then preload Iron Man (in standard definition) with some extras for $US20.
The move is part of a broader Dell initiative that will soon offer more movie preloads and eventually a whole Dell iTunes-like digital download store. But we can't help but to think it's a little strange all the same.
Then again, I, for one, would pay big bucks for an Iron Man co-branded antivirus software package. How great would it be to watch Iron Man beat the crap out of malicious files? Pew pew! Kapowee!! [Dell]

@onewiththewurlitzer: Why don't more people remember the stripper stewardesses aboard Tony's jet?

LOL like anyone is going to choose one PC over the other cause it comes with Iron Man, this might do more harm to them than good, i mean people sometimes like their machines with the less bundle bullcrap as possible, i mean Iron Man was a fun movie to watch on the theater but is not something i want talking almost 4 GBs of space on my PC

Its a cool that Dell is loading Ironman but really how much are you saving by choosing a Dell? $20? Its more hype than substance but Dell gotta do what they gotta do to move more units, cant blame them though.

@Jrsy is the dude, playing the dude, disguised as another du...: I'd prefer something like "Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening sir", depending on the time of day I boot it up of course.

Ooh, ooh and it's got to play 'Iron Man' by Black Sabbath as it boots up.

@Kaiser-Machead: Jarvis, make Windows Vista not so slow, and uh, throw in some snazzy looks... Oh, and, make it visually appealing on the outside.
"So, you're saying you'd like a Mac sir?"
Er, right.

@Kaiser-Machead: You mean they should replace every windows version by Jarvis. And, of course, include the vocal commands.

@Xavoc: More importantly, will it come in a gold titanium alloy? If not, then I just don't see the appeal.

Hrm, ok... But will it come in red and gold?

The AV program must be named Jarvis. There is no argument allowed on this point.

(whew)
First thing I did with my Mini 9 is wipe it and re-install WinXP!
I'd hate to think I messed up and wiped something of value! ;)

The wording on the Dell site is really weird, it says "Iron Man movie with bonus content included!" and won't let you uncheck it, but it doesn't say "free" or "at no additional charge." Makes it seem like they are adding $20 to the cost of the system and giving you Iron Man whether you like it or not.

@snitch29: Its not like this alleged 4 gig file cant be erased. I agree with you that this isnt a dealbreaker but it shouldnt hurt them.

Will it run off that gizmo he has in his chest?
Does it have a cool Iron Man screen saver too?
