Create Your Own Crazy Nokia Headphone Concept
Posted by Mark Wilson at 1:45 AM on October 4, 2008
Nokia has one of the best browser-based advertising toys we've seen in a long time. You can design your own outlandish headphone concept with a smooth, easy to use 3D interface. The best will be chosen for real (probably also conceptual) fabrication, but we're wondering...WHY IN THE WORLD CAN'T WE ACTUALLY BUY HEADPHONES THAT ARE THIS AWESOME??
Nokia, or anyone else, give us a headphone customisation device that's both this absurd and robust, throw a $US150 pricetag on the end product and we can promise you'll bank. Because there's got to be slave labour somewhere on this planet that can glue orange cups and organ pipes on a carbon headband for 10 cents an hour. [Nokia via bbGadgets]

I still enjoy the steampunk fad.....not enough to wear those headphones though. How about some wood-grain headphones! Come on Nokia!

@OMG! Ponies!: And as I recall, Herb Powell punched Homer square in the face because of it.

I'll take some normal looking ones with those bengal tiger heads sticking out the side.
Definite thundercats vibe there.

@Jimbuck Bada' Bing!: I wouldn't classify a single one of those designs as steampunk. The one shown on the main page has what looks to be a motorcycle tire, a fan assemble from a turbo-fan jet engine, and organ pipes. All three of those are technology currently in use, two of which were developed long after steam-power had faded.

Actually... I like it
Also the -4 one with the white tigers shooting out.
it clearly says "the crap I'm listening would make a tiger flee"

Hmmm Nokia had crazy ads and huge displays with weird headphones like this setup pretty much every 15 ft. in Singapore when I was there a few weeks ago. They also had every subway window plastered with them. Oh and if you had a Nokia phone you could go to their website and download the pictures from the ads. Pretty tacky marketing campaign idea if you ask me!

@Ariel_Wollinger: Ack, you beat me to it. The organ pipes and spiky things immediately said Spore to me. Maybe I need to get out of the house more often.
