CinematographHD: Two Monitors In One Incredible Case Mod
Posted by Mark Wilson at 11:30 PM on October 8, 2008
When a video editor became depressed looking at his laptop, he did the only logical thing. He went to the garage, whipped out the welding torch and cooked himself up a portable system that could store a five-drive RAID0 array and two 22-inch monitors. Video is captured via unspecified HDMI-wielding video card and project output occurs through a Blu-ray burner. We don't know what the whole honking system weighs in at, but we do know that this 10-minute spark montage build video puts Rocky !, II, III and IV to shame:
I don't know about you, but I'm gonna go do some push ups. [Modders Inc]

A microwave on top of the fact that with those fans, drives and all that metal, there's gotta be a bit of vibration, and and all that fancy hardware crammed into a custom box but no Wacom?! And please, Rocky was far superior, that there clip was a few minutes way too long!

Cool video, although I could only get 4 minutes into it before seeing enough. It's nice to still see people out there building things themselves to get what they want instead of settling for what's on the market. Maybe he can patent his design and sell them...if he wants one I'm sure others would be interested as well.

I like it. Something like this would be great in a college dorm where accidents happen involving air duster cans and dvd's.

Looks like a freaking microwave. I'm pretty sure with that those screens and heat fans, it has enough infra radiation to cook anyone after working on it for hours

omfg seriously want. the keyboard and mouse stored underneath the thing is just plain awesome, just need wheels and an extendable handle and it'd be the a pretty awesome semi mobile workstation

I did like the tray on the bottom for the keyboard... nice touch (although I think a drawer might have been better)

That is absolutely beautiful. Not just the casemod itself, the video was kick ass too. Brings a tear to my eye.
Why can't I have my own metal shop?

Overkill, and there's absoltutely nothing wrong with that. I agree with some others though, it needed the keyboard and mouse to be on a pull out tray and wheels and a luggage style extendable handle to cart it around with. Might as well have gone water cooled also, since this thing has to weigh a ton. All that being said, I wouldn't mind having that case so long as I wasn't completely stuck with having to use certain computer components. The diamond plate was a little too much though.

I got a Postal Service "Such Great Heights" video vibe from this, for certain. That kicks nine various types of asses. The slo-mo shots of the cutting and welding were pretty rad.

@sqeakytoy of the apocalypse:
Yeah...when he rocked the unit back to reveal the keyboard/mouse stash area......I stood up and cheered.
Maybe the whole thing is impractical for the masses, but major props to the builder for building (nay, over building) exactly what he wanted.

@saeder: Blame it on an engineering background, but I really liked seeing the whole building process and wouldn't have minded more!

I still like Rocky Videos better, but nice mod eitherway. Look like something the Army could use for their mobile command.

Some serious PR thoughts went into this before the undertaking even started. Vid/camera set-up, cutting slo-mo action, much work. Good job on all fronts - case as well as production editing - though a little drawn out with the cutting and welding sequences just to fill the song(s).

@J. Nadeau: I'll be honest, I loved what he did, from an engineering and technical standpoint, but my comment was more reflecting his job as a video editor... as someone whose worked in the post-production industry for a bit the 10minute clip was a bit much the way it was all cut together... now the cutting of his case, that seemed to work out quite well! Maybe he's missing his calling because that thing could hold promise...

Why is it the first thing I thought when I saw that was, "2 monitors... 1 case?"

Shows there can be some pretty good outcomes out of hobbies more than just sitting on a fat ass.

Funny, I came up with just about that exact idea, a few years back. Right down to the thatched steel plating.
It'd make for an ultimate LAN box, since you'd only require one power adapter.
