Balsa Wood Canon DSLR Gives Us the Inevitable
Posted by Jesus Diaz at 5:20 AM on October 2, 2008
This balsa wood Canon DSLR is a perfect object of desire for both photography aficionados and people who like crafts. The steps are really simple, and the results--as you can see in the image--look great.

Of course, if I tried this, mine would end up looking like a cubist version of a 1980 Polaroid instant camera. [Canon via Core77]

Wait, 1980s polaroids were not cubist?

Oh sure, so now there's gonna be another media card format. What's the biggest capacity BW card available?

Looks like a really crappy waste of time and wood. Why not make something ORIGINAL with the limited talent?

This would give that old time feel to its pictures; the graininess of the pics ...

@ripfire: This isn't a Dremel project but primarily a band saw project...

Why not go the extra few steps and make it an actual working film camera? Maybe a pinhole or a medium format.

Sounds like something Rachel Ray might've said, but I'm not certain.

This is actually how canon used to make their design prototypes for ergonomic studies. Until recently it was much faster to make a balsa wood sculpture and hone the design over time instead of having to make a cnc milled or injected plastic model for every revision.
