I have had my macbook pro for 2 and 1/2 years.. and i am way out of my warranty. I am a college student, and i was working on a paper. I closed the laptop, put it in my backpack, walked to a different building, and opened it only to find that the screen wasn't turning on. But i brought my computer to an apple store and they are fixing it for free. Im not sure if i have to pay labor costs.. but they handled this beautifully. This is how you get dedicated customers.

Yep, my Macbook pro display just went 2 days ago, can here the startup chime etc but just a black display which also happens on the external monitor.
My laptop is just over a year old so hope this article is correct in that apple will exchange the parts.
Its a real pain, cant work, cant meet my deadline and dont know how to procede.
If anyone has seen an official apple website with exchange details please suplly, am in panic mode, really disappointed and now I have to disapoint my client as I cant finish the job on time.

I had suffered this issue approx. 2 weeks ago. Apple was good enough to replace my mainboard even though the warranty had run out by some 6 weeks. I had to pay the labour costs, but save the significant part cost ($1400 AU). When I phoned Apple at the time, they denied it was a known issue, as I was claiming after doing some research on the net. I might see now if I can get may labour costs refunded :-)
