Virtual Lake Floating Lounge Brings the Sandman Every Time
Posted by Sean Fallon at 5:30 AM on September 4, 2008
Even the most crippling insomnia is surely no match for the Gentle Wave lounge. Using a handheld remote, users can control a rocking motion that is designed to simulate floating in a lake. It can also be used to manage the intensity of the sound wave massage emanating from its dual 50-watt transducers. Combine that with a supine posture and memory foam chair, and your problems with insomnia will be replaced by the fear of slipping into a coma. However, at US$7,000, I will be sticking to drinking a few beers and falling asleep in the pool on a US$15 SpongeBob raft. [Hammacher Schlemmer via Likecool]

"...simulate floating in a lake." -- Complete with natural and relaxing grinding noise as it's peewee Chinese motor struggles with the torque required to rock your fat ass.

I wish I had this for sleeping in a little pod room pumped full of pure oxygen.
I'd keep the bed for other purposes, of course.

Consumer Reports recommended Brookstone's Tranquil Moments Sleep Sound Machine. Crappy name and it's the kind of thing you usually see in a SkyMall magazine. And it's not cheap, although not seven grand.
But I bought one anyway and it's worked very well for me. It's been a few weeks and I've yet to still be awake an hour after hitting the sack, which is unusual for me.

Bucket of warm water not included. Gentle Wave Lounge is not urine-resistant. Cleaning Gentle Wave Lounge voids warranty.

"users can control a rocking motion that is designed to simulate floating in a lake."
More like the rocking motion for a crib. Ya big babies! Do like a real man would and bang your head against the wall until you fall asleep. That's the way to get a good nights sleep.

why bother making the chair even for the rich to buy, if I had the cash I would spend it on a giant floaty designed to not topple or allow water into the floaty so I can sleep while on a real lake. To add to that why aren't their more rich people with moats and black knights guarding the drawbridge to their home on an island, is there no creativity out there.

@TommySez: I think I'd rather get that Sleep Sound Machine. Seems like it would work better.

@TommySez: While very skeptical about these things I got one for Mrs. McLucky and actually we both like it. It puts me to sleep pretty quickly.

@N@tedog: I too was thinking that anything relaxing from the motion would be completely negated by the incessant motor whir.

How many sleepless nights will you have trying to figure out how to pay for the thing. I mean it won't even play Doom (someone had to say it).

I'm going to have to do the sponge bob raft in the bathtub. Pools are like $15k.

@RE-L: I just went with what Consumer Reports tested and liked. They found it to be almost as effective as prescription drugs.
They did test other (much cheaper) sound machines, but they didn't test as well.
Of course, it could just be the placebo affect. But, as long as I fall asleep, I don't care. :)
(I used to count backwards in my head in base 13. But once I got good at it, it stopped working.)
