T-Mobile Popping Open Web Browser on Most Phones
Once you go open, it's hard to be closed, as T-Mobile's finding out. Following the launch of the totally open G1, T-Mobile is set to open up its crappy, closed T-Zones WAP browser that populates most of their new feature phones. Hopefully that means the full web, though they haven't confirmed that. Still, a radical openness could be a smart move for T-Mobile to embrace—as the smallest national carrier with the most limited resources (Alltel doesn't count), it's the most compelling thing they could offer. That is exactly why Android is so compelling. I can wait to see what kind of dev support will be out over the first 6mos of release.

@TheName: A friend of mine does has that too. Wonder what he would do if they do cancel T-Zones.

iPhone + T-Zones = $5.99 EDGE. I, for one, hope they keep it the way it is.

@TheName:
Me too. $5.99 for unlimited data, even though it's EDGE, is such a great deal.

This probably has to do with that new APN that was found the other day, epc.tmobile.com . It doesn't require a wap proxy like the wap.voicestream.com APN currently uses for T-zones. I'm using it on my iphone with the $6 plan and it seems to be working just fine, faster than the wap proxy one.

@TheName: This is what I use. k850 + $6 gets me unlimited data. Fucking yes? Yes.

I feel Tmo is going to embrace android as their platform of choice for a lot of phones come the next year. I also feel the sidekick is going to play second fiddle to the rest of this line up.
Opening up is going to flood tmo with the possibilities needed to propel them into insanity. Yay.
