T-Mobile Confirms Android/HTC Dream Unveil for September 23
Posted by John Mahoney at 4:55 AM on September 17, 2008
There it is. We've basically already known of T-Mobile's Android plans going down on September 23, but now it's been made official via a press invite for an event at 10:30 AM, where we'll get our first look at the Android-powered HTC Dream (known as the G1 under T-Mo). No word on whether that date will also coincide with phone availability (some have speculated it will come later), but you can bet we'll be there to find out.

I'm the same way, I'm getting this phone regardless. Not leaving T-Mo, so this is clearly my best option.

*hops up and down excitedly*
I've been using an unlocked Blackjack for months, and I am 'bout ready for this! Besides, my birthday is in October, I think this is a good contender for a present to myself!

@takashimiike 7: What, are you not happy with the 13 different razors you can buy. How about the awesome line of nokia music phones. Sheesh some people are so hard to please.
/Praying to the phone gods that I can replace my dash finally.

This better be good. T-Mobile hasn't had much to offer lately.

T-Mobile, you have finally made your move and I as a customer cannot wait to see what's in store. No matter what I'm getting one anyway, there's not much else to choose from anyway.

Why the fuck does T-mobile have to get the good phones and not have coverage up where I live?
All we get is the Bold (and no 3G coverage to boot). They get the nice BB flip phone AND an Android.
No fair.

Sigh, I just want something cool that duplicates what crackberry does for me at the moment. I've got a feeling this phone won't quite make it for six months to a year.

Well that's new.. I've never heard anyone complain that T-Mo HAS good phones. Their phones have traditionally sucked, unless you're into Blackberry. I'm sure hoping this phone pans out to something good.

i seldom (if ever) endorse companies, but i have to make a point of saying how incredible tmob's customer service is. in my lifetime it remains unparalleled. i would hate to leave them because of the iphone so i hope this is my answer.

@dieman: Wasn't there a report a while back saying that android wouldn't have Exchange support at launch?

@RoscoPeeholePain: I used the same logic, but luckily for me I picked up a first gen iPhone as soon as it was unlocked and am therefore able to have to best of both worlds. I'm waiting to see pricing and such, but there's a pretty good chance that I'll be switching to the Dream when T-Mobile releases it.

@HeartBurnKid, creepy morbid freak: God I hope she's wrong.
My Razr quit working (got soaked in storm at NFL game, phone in pocket, keypad is half-dead) and I've been using my Grandmother's REALLY old Samsung cell. It's so old it has the crappy 1st gen ringtones, blue-lit screen, and pixelated text and such. At least it does have t-9, though the t-9 isn't all that smart compared to what was on my Razr. I need this new phone!

I talked to a T-Mo associate the other night (was changing my plan), and she said that the Dream likely won't be available for sale until December. Let's keep our fingers crossed that she's wrong...

@PCLoadLetter: I'm with you on that one man, the 'ole Dash is getting a little long in the tooth.
Luckily, it's the last phone I purchased and I got it right when it came out so I'm eligible for an upgrade.

My stupid Dash keeps dying on me in the middle of conversations... fully charged! Not sure if I can hold out for another few weeks w/o a working phone though. Hopefully, Tmobile will sell them sooner than later.

Looks like many tmo user's hopes of upgrading from a wing to a diamond pro or something of that sort are getting darker and darker by the day. My contract is up in june...$200 fee. I'll probably just pay that and jump ship. People with wings probably aren't going to be happy with this, a linux user's wet dream. I'm a 4 year loyal tmo customer, and I disagree with those who say now is a bad time to jump ship.
I'll hold out for the press conference, but unless they have something other than the subject at hand, something that someone with a wing would actually consider an upgrade, I'll be taking my money elsewhere. I took the time to get to know WM. I went from the first Palm Pilots (played hours and hours of drug wars btw), then jumped ship and went through all of the versions of the microsoft PDA software, then the phones came out and I am now very comfortable with WM. I'm a PC dammit!:) Who buys a car with a first generation, brand new motor, anyway? I understand why some think it's cool, but I already have loads of software ready to sync. I really hope they have a good full-screen, qwerty, WM option for 3G. But...
Now, Sprint's looking pretty good for my tastes, and customer service definately is slipping over in the tmo camp.
