Thrustmaster's Glowing Lightsaber Wiimote Add-on Might Make Force Unleashed Bearable
Posted by Jason Chen at 7:00 AM on September 29, 2008
We've seen Wii lightsaber attachments before, but Thrustmaster's version actually looks like something we'd be excited in using. These add-on sticks are powered by three AAAs and have 17 blue or red LEDs for glow-in-the-dark action. Nice, but we're not sure how much more "gameplay" it'll add to The Force Unleashed. Bonus shot for awkward Canadian teens after the jump. [Thrustmaster via Go Nintendo]

@Thatmushroom: Nice post, but I still think the best one by far is the version with the blaster bolts. Drunken Jedi Master I think it's called. Still, these are all classic.

Let's face it, if we're going to show awkward Canadian Star Wars Fans, let's just get this out of the way now:

I found the 360 version bearable - mainly for it's story[checkyourhud.com]
From what I've heard though, no amount of light saber goodness could make the Wii version tolerable - the controls are imprecise and muddy from what I hear. On a related note, I'm thinking of getting the Wii version for one of my non gamer friends for xmas - the Wii is the only current gen console he has, and that's for the best, as fishing in Twilight princess got the best of him - my girlfriend and I had to do the fishing parts for him...... maybe I should rethink my xmas gift giving plans. Maybe he'd like a nice sweater instead.

@What the Geek: Do you friend a favor and don't. Friends don't let friends buy "The Force Unleashed." I must say it's a horrible game (this coming from a SW fanatic and Wii-friendly gamer). Everything everybody has said about the controls is true - it ruins what might otherwise be a slightly-above-average game (but only because its SW - otherwise it would rate around 'bad').
My recommendations are de Blob (a lot of fun and quite different than most other games) and BoomBlox. Yes, its an older game, but very addicting.

++ for de Blob & Boomblox. The physics in Boomblox is surprisingly addictive.

@PigVenus: good choices - the only reason I was thinking of getting the guy TFU was 'cause he's into SW - I really liked the plot of TFU, but I played it on the 360 - the controls are much better than the Wii version from what I hear.

As an Awkward Canadian who just bought it for the Wii today, an hour into gameplay, I feel as though all I'm doing is throwing my hands around aimlessly, and everything just dies. It's not as fluid as I'd hoped it would be. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the EPIC DIALOGUE to pieces ... And the game itself, but I'm easily entertained.
Star Wars games should be majestic enough to make up for how lame they are. Do these saber add-ons do anything to help the controls suck less?

I haven't heard from Thrustmaster in years. The last product I owned was a neat little joystick with a seperate throttle control and "twist for rudder"

@bdonohue: They had a brief awesomeness revival around 2001-2003, putting out some of the best PC gamepads I've ever seen. Comfy ergonomics, highly polished fit and finish, and really precise pads and buttons. Excellent stuff.
They started going downhill after that, though, and they've been releasing stuff that looks much more "generic third-party accessory."

@What The Geek: OH GOD the fishing in that game was so horrible. Wasted hours and hours in frustration trying to get that to work.
