This Week in Blu-Ray: The Godfather Collection Edition

Giz pick of the week: The Godfather Collection
Some of you may already have the trilogy on DVD (or even VHS), but a year was spent remastering the Godfather movies frame by frame for this Blu-ray release under the strict watch of Coppola himself. The new collection goes for about $US80, but features all sorts of new extras along with rehashes from the original DVD collection if you never picked that up. Godfather not your thing? You're an idiot. But there's lots of other stuff out this week as well:
Animalia: Welcome to the Kingdom (Porchlight)
Blow (New Line)
Cirque du Soleil: Corteo (Sony)
Deception (Fox)
The Godfather Collection (Paramount)
Halford: Live Insurrection - Remastered (Metal God)
L.A. Confidential (Warner)
Leatherheads (Universal)
Madagascar (DreamWorks)
Re-Cycle (Image)
Run Fatboy Run (Universal)
Sex and the City (New Line)
Shrek the Third (Paramount)

If a frame-by-frame remaster is the reason behind the wait for the LOTR trilogy on Blu-Ray, then, by all means it's acceptable. Still, I'm dying for it. I've had my marathon invitation cards printed out for months.
In the meantime, I will settle for drooling over this Godfather set.

Thanks for the laugh. After being so embroiled in the Gawker Threading Brouhaha of 2008 for the last 24 hours, I needed a good chuckle. And, yes, I am adding the trilogy to my Amazon Wishlist.

Godfather FTW.
I'd lay out all kinds of money for Band of Brothers in Blu-Ray. It was pretty amazing on DVD, and should completely knock my head off in Blu-Ray.

@MOBIUSONE:
'2' was the best I agree also, the 3rd was to repetitive in comedy, kind of a been there done that feeling. 2nd was AWESOME, new comedy and take on things, the best I think.

@BloggyMcBlogBlog: I enjoyed it. But I'm an idiot because I'm not a fan of The Godfather or most mob movies for that matter. ;c)

And now, my own personal take of the tech equivelent of the Godfather.
VHS - Luca Brazi (Sleeps with the fishes)
DVD - Tom Hagan (Still useful)
VHS-C - Virgil "The Turk" Sollozzo (Good try, but FAIL)
HD-DVD - Fredo (Never reached greatness)
Blu-Ray - Michael Corleone (Power, greed, & set up for a big fall)
My wife's rage at buying the Godfather Blu-Ray - Al Neri

Yeah, plus I think the third one might of been more geared at kids rather then both kids and adults. I think there was some meaning behind the 3rd one, but I cant remember.

Haven't seen the Godfather yet, but have heard many good things about it.

@unibrow4o9: You'll be able to see the little flecks of blood on the hair of the horse's head.
Marlon Brando will look fatter.
James Caan's hairdo will pop. POP I tell you. POP!

Honestly, how good could The Godfather look on BluRay? I'm not even being a negative nancy, I'm really curious. Seems older movies would not benefit very much after being remastered for dvd.

@BloggyMcBlogBlog: Hell yeah it is. LA Confidential really surprised me the first time I watched it. Great stuff.
Although unlike that IDIOT Rabid Penguin, I enjoy The Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino, etc. (Just kidding penguin, but come on!)

@Rhayader: I don't think it's a bad or poorly done film... mob movies just not my cup o' tea. I've seen all the Godfathers, Goodfellas, Casino, Donnie Brasco, The Untouchables, etc, etc. I'm a big fan of movies and try to give every movie it's fair shake, even if I'm not the biggest fan of the genre.
