This Week in Blu-ray: Iron Man Knocked Up Edition
Posted by Mark Wilson at 11:10 PM on September 30, 2008
Giz pick of the week: Iron Man
There's no doubt Iron Man was a guilty pleasure, but when executed with a very decent script, a superb cast of actors and unbelievable art design and special effects, we're suddenly proud to put the popcorn flick on our shelf. And the Blu-ray comes with plenty of extras, like a BD Live Iron Man quiz game, screen tests, 24 minutes of deleted scenes and even a Hall of Armour to check out the Iron Man suit:
Here are the other Blu-ray releases for this week.
• The 40-Year-Old • Virgin (Universal)
• Angel in the Family (Echo Bridge)
• Can't Hardly Wait (Sony)
• A Christmas Visitor (Echo Bridge)
• Daredevil: Director's Cut (Fox)

If that comedy collection threw in Super Bad and Heavy Weights, it might possibly be the best DVD ever released.

That comedy collection would be pretty good. Funny movies, all of them.

I just don't get the collective orgasm over Iron Man. Whereas Batman Begins and Dark Knight are so awesome, Iron Man seemed so predictable and cartoonish.
Is that the draw? Is it because I'm 28 years old I didn't like it.
Can someone please explain what made Iron Man so amazing? I'm not knocking it, it just didn't stand out to me from X-Men or Spider-man, both of which I just said "meh" to.

@Chester_Copperpot: to me, it was the perfect summer movie. somewhat shallow, action packed, nice predictable story.
it's the type of movie you just sit down and watch with friends and family just to have a good time. you know, the kind where you don't have to read too much into it.
like i really liked Dark Knight because of its multiple storylines to keep track of. i thought iron man was the Yin to The Dark Knight's Yang.

@Chester_Copperpot: I'm 27 years old and I _did_ like it. I'll wait until next year when I turn 28 to let you know if that's the case. Otherwise, maybe you just have bad taste in movies ;c)

@ChibiKyKiske: I concur.
Iron Man is just a have fun and kick@$$ movie, which I will be watching on BD with the volume up so my neighbors can enjoy all the action too.

@ripfire: A digital copy is when a DVD (be it standard DVD or Blu Ray) comes with a copy of the movie that can be downloaded to one's pc/laptop and, thus, transferred to a mobile device (like an iPhone, PSP or other PMP.)
No digital copy? Then I plan to steal one. If anyone prom Paramount has a problem with that, feel free to contact me. I'm in the Viacom directory. There are a few Dave/David G's in there, but I'm sure you could figure it out if you really tried.

@Chester_Copperpot:
I'm with you man. I like comic book movies, and i can take a summer movie for what it's worth, but to me iron man just wasn't that special. It was kind of boring, and Tony Stark's sarcasm and snark wore on me. Plus (and i know it's just a fucking movie, and a comic book movie at that, but still) I didn't like the idea that his robots and machines understood every word he said, i thought that was stupid.

@ChibiKyKiske: Ok got it, see I used to like those types of movies when I was 16, now I guess I just want more than explosions. Don't get me wrong, I like silly movies like Pineapple Express, I guess I'm just over my "Armageddon, Con-Air" phase.
