The Rotary Phone 4-Port USB Hub Reminds Me of a Crazy Teacher
Posted by Sean Fallon at 7:20 AM on September 18, 2008
This 4-port rotary phone USB hub reminds me of this teacher in my junior high school that enjoyed "talking" to her husband on a toy telephone during class. She also named her rings and kept them in little cages she designed (seriously). The running joke in the school was how bat-shit crazy she was—which is probably why I find this thing so amusing. Turning the dial opens and closes the hubs, which gives it an interesting aesthetic appeal and prevents dust and debris from mucking up the ports. Just remember: if you feel compelled to make a phone call on it, that means you are losing your mind. Seek help immediately. Available for $US15. [Gadget4all via Apartment Therapy]

It's clever. USB will eventually go the way of the dodo, just like rotary phones..

The disturbing-ness of this post distracted me from the actual product.

That is the weirdest, yet most interesting story about a teacher I've heard.

@OMG! Ponies!: I still have it but I have trouble getting a dial tone. Must be GSM or something.

OMG. I can't believe you were in my class.
I see that you're writing in complete sentences now, thanks to me.

It was an art teacher, wasn't it? I had a crazy art teacher. My lesbian friend convinced him to go to a gay bar with her, and he almost lost his job. Obviously this was many years ago, as NOW he would be soooo fired.

@daftrok: Elaborate? Ok, but I thought it was kind of obvious. Current technology eventually gets surpassed by the latest and greatest. Rotary was replaced by touch tone. USB could face a similar fate somewhere down the road..

@Substance_D: Like everyone else, I have had a history of crazy art teachers. But none of them could compare to this woman. She was actually a math teacher believe it or not.

Downside: Looks like the quirky receiver/USB cable would block every other port on the side of one's laptop.
Upside: Instead of lots of peripherals, you could have a fake old-school phone receiver plugged into your machine.
