Posted by Wilson Rothman at 4:05 AM on September 23, 2008
According to leaks collected by Sony Insider, that Sony Vaio TT I mentioned yesterday is turning out to be one of the sweetest laptops we've ever not seen. A new spec sheet shows that the 1.3kg laptop will come in Champagne Gold, Crimson Red and Silk Black with respectable features, and then there will be a Premium Carbon Fibre Black, with a 250GB solid-state two-drive array and a 2X speed Blu-ray burner—with no change in overall weight. If it's anything like the TZ series you're looking at a seriously expensive machine.

For all that, you would expect to get more than 2 usb ports. And I agree about the cheap CPU.

@marm0lade: Well I guess we'll have to wait and see what they actually price these models at, but yeah compared to the rest of the specs I'd say that it was pretty low standard.

@wheresmydanish: This is a small portable laptop with only a 11" inch screen, the heat production of this small titan might already be like that of Helio himself. I mean it can do everything, + bacon.

@wheresmydanish: You think a 1.4GHz core 2 duo is cheap??? I think its damn good for a laptop this small and feature packed.

TZ has better specs (much better CPU). Fully loaded these suckers go for like 3k. Which is crazy for a machine that can just open windows quickly. Should be able to play games but they can't fit a really good GPU in there.

It's 256GB of SSD (2x 128GB on RAID). With the Z-series at $4k for 128GB SSD RAID, this one is probably $5k?

Two 128GB SSD's and a blu-ray burner? In an 11.1 inch package? My wallet explodes just trying to contemplate how much that would cost.

Guess you guys have never seen a TZ. The thing is small and the battery life is prolific at a cost of overall performance. These are not "cheap" processors. They are ultra-low-voltage or ULV. Don't get these confused with full sized or Atom processors. These are different animals.
I love my TZ and routinely get 5 hours of life from the standard capacity battery. Faster disk and more proc is always welcome. Put in a backlit keyboard and I'm sold.
mikecoscia, you are incorrect. The TT will have the newest ULV proc with DDR3 RAM. It beats the old proc in both raw mHZ and FSB speed.

@Letsgohokies: more USB ports than the MBA, and probably in the same price bracket.

I have the 11" TX series, its like 5yrs old and i still get people making comments about it at least twice a month.
The TT series is a monster performer for its size, if i had the money i will definatley buy it...however next year i will probably resort for a used older TZ series under 1k. I love these little things!
