Stuck at a Desk? Watch the Presidential Debate Online
Posted by Wilson Rothman at 10:15 AM on September 27, 2008
Tonight at 9pm ET the first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama takes place. In the interest of keeping political discussion alive in America, here's a link to CBS, where we know the debate will be streamed live, at least within the US. Here's a link to NBC, which hosts much debate-related video, but doesn't quite say outright that it'll be streaming live. ABC also has a link to election coverage, but they don't seem to say much about this streaming video thing at all. Watch, discuss, get excited or pissed off. If the network's commentary is too vanilla-bean for your uppity self—or if your sorry arse is out of the country and blackballed from US video service—hit up Gawker's liveblog of the debates. When you've had enough of democracy in action, come back here for your fill of Lego Millennium Falcons, boob-related iPhone apps and other timeless objets du awesome. [Gawker]

Nobody should be stuck at a desk this late at night unless they're stranded on another continent. Even in Cali, you go to work early on a day like this.

Canuck, the Green part wont be part of it.
And the debate is useless, Harper will win anyhow since he's the best to lead.
Dion? C'mon... Layton? Tss...
Thanks Gizmo, was looking for a feed of the debate! :D

Man, McCain is getting torn up. Obama is floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee. Jim Lehrer's trying to put both of them in headlocks, though. Lehrer kicks so much ass.

@joepa1: he's getting crushed? all mccain did was try to pull sob stories out of his ass the entire time. you could actually start a drinking game called "The Point" .. and take a shot for every time McCain says "The point is...". He had to blatantly state he was going to make a point and then never delivered.

@azshall: Ironically he also said that "I don't think Obama understands," when he clearly understands that at this point and time, resolving international relations and focusing on domestic policies are more important than pursuing a war effort we've already won by congress's loose standards.

How was McCain crushing anybody? Many analysts opined that Obama seemed to hold the edge, but even by the most conservative standards it was more or less even. And you mention stumbling and bumbling phrases and names- Were you even watching the debate?

The whole 'tell it directly to him' thing Lehrer kept trying was very off-putting.
I call this debate a draw to a minor advantage to McCain for the fact he was able to finally get *some* facts out about Obama's voting/pork record that the media has failed to pass along due to their obsession with Palin.
When word starts to get out that the financial meltdown was not only a result of the 'hands-off' approach by the Bush Admin, but the major push to get subprime mortgages forced on lenders by the Democrats (Obama included) it'll be enough to stunt some of the economic advantage. Link Obama to Dodd and Reid in the current climate could be more toxic than the McCain to Bush talking point.

It's going to be an interesting drive to the finish, that's for sure.

@joepa1: Dude, im an independent, but no doubt your a right wing nut job. That comment is straight from the republican talking points. You must have been watching this on Fox news somehow, where the commentators were no doubt saying McCain crushed Obama.
Now i don't think Obama did that well, but he edged out McCain by a little.
McCain pleased his base with his jabs at Obama, and Obama held his own throughout the jabs, and dropped a few of his own. It was decent, but nothing new was introduced.
Quite frankly, a tie in this debate goes to Obama, because its McCain that needs a win, and he needs one bad.

@joepa1: Well, that's not how people polled right after the debates felt:
CBS News poll of Undecided voters.
40% of uncommitted voters who watched the debate tonight thought Barack Obama was the winner. 22% thought John McCain won. 38% saw it as a draw.
CNN (voting) Poll as of right now:
John McCain 34%
Barack Obama 52%
Tie 6.1%
Not sure 8.2%
Basically, McSame needed a victory tonight on what is supposed to be his strong issue, foreign policy. Maybe he should have cut and run after all.

Regarding the Palin/Biden debate: McSame talking up inexperience and pork barrel spending is not going to help Palin next week. Not to mention that she can't even handle a basic question from Katie Couric:

You must have seen a different debate. The one I saw featured Obama lying like rug and stammering like a feeb.

re: Debate...what really matters is convincing swing voters. Obama won the debate in all the polls, including pure polling of undecided voters. Look around and let me know if you find a legitimate polling that says otherwise.
re: Biden/Palin...yeah, Biden makes gaffes sometimes, just like any other old fart (like McSame's endless list of gaffes) Palin IS a gaffe. I think you're trying to project the embarrassment of the McSame campaign on Biden. Palin is going to get destroyed on national television next Thurs. It's going to be a bloodbath.

Amazing, I never would have thought that we had McCain supporters on Gizmodo, I thought we were all a bit smarter than that. I thought that the only people supporting McCain were senior citizens and moronic, un-educated Christian Zealots, (pretty much the entire middle of the country). Thank god for the 55 + 31 electoral votes that California and New York have, if it weren't for that, I'd definitely have to start a secession movement to get California to secede from the union.
