SlingNerds Rejoice: Slingbox Pro-HD and SlingCatcher Finally Available for Pre-Order
Posted by Wilson Rothman at 9:18 AM on September 11, 2008
The Slingers are giddy today: After a long wait, many good things are happening with their favourite placeshifter. The Slingbox Pro-HD, which lets you sling 1080i content around a local area network, and the SlingCatcher, a set-top box intended to receive content from other Slingboxes, are both available for pre-order, US$300 a pop, and better late than never. Windows-based Slingers can be psyched about the latest beta of the Sling Player 2.0 (available for Macs by like 2047 or something). While we're at it, SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian UIQ just arrived. So there you go, Sling away, just remember to lock the door so your mum doesn't catch you. [Slingbox Pro-HD and SlingCatcher via MegaZone at Sling Community]

I love slingbox. It was kind of a pain to set up, but I love using it on my laptop.

I'll watch 1080p with my popcorn hour for 1/3 the total cost instead.
Oh wait, I already did. Six months ago.

Almost totally forgot about the iphone sling play we were teased with moths ago. But then again we were teased with slingcatcher even months before that, so they are still playing catchup.

I live on the west coast, but I'm from Chicago, so I bought my parents an additional cable box and connected a slingbox to it. Now I can watch the Bears without paying for Dish Network. Unfortunately, I'm stuck watching it on my computer. If this slingcatcher actually works with decent resolution, I'll be very impressed.
ps. Let's go on the iPhone version. This is taking way too long.

I just pre-ordered a large quantity of these to donate to low-income families.

Put me on the list. PPLLLEEAAASSEEE Sling for iPhone. Didn't they already have a running app on a pwned phone? I guess there's all kind of red (and orange and yellow and blue) tape to get it legit on the app store.

Well done Sling Media. I'll buy one of each. (seriously) As long as you get the iphone client released too.

Unfortunately the Beta for the 2.0 player expires on Oct 1. Not sure if that is the time it goes live to replace the other player or not. Setting up my box with 2.0 was easy as you just created a Sling Account and you log into it to access your box. No need for the 5 mile long SlingID...although I had to use that for my Slingplayer Mobile :(

Just for clarification, I'm referring to the SlingCatcher.

About frakkin' time!! The past two years at CES I've been begging for this. I have two SlingBoxes now (AV on the bedroom's TiVo, and a Pro on the family room TiVo and digital cable box), and I've been wanting one of these to use in the bedroom so I won't have to pay for another digital converter.
Hell, maybe I'll wait for CES next year and try to win one (which is how I got my AV model).

@jaroth: The SlingCatcher has HDMI out.
The PRO-HD does NOT have HDMI in because of a little thing called HDCP.
