Samsung's NC10 Leaps Aboard the 10-inch Netbook Bandwagon, Is Bacteria-Phobic
Posted by Kit Eaton at 7:43 PM on September 19, 2008
Samsung is the latest to join the UMPC/netbook party with the NC10, though it's wrapping its tiny notebook with PR spin that it's "a stylish alternative to existing products in the space." There's a 10.2-inch/1024 x 600-pixel screen, Atom processor, 8-hour battery life, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, memory card reader, and 80GB or 160GB HDD. Its "normal" sized keyboard is even sprinkled with nano silver particles to keep bacteria at bay. It's due to hit the shops in October (in the UK at least) with pricing up to $US590. Oh, and that "stylish" thing? It's probably 'cause it looks really shiny. [PocketLint and Akihabaranews]

I was thinking about getting the Dell Mini, but I think this would be a better buy, and easier to type on. Here's to hoping it's offered in the US.

I will buy one of these devices for traveling; however, I need to know which one will run Ubuntu best. I too looked at the Dell and it was too easy to run the price up beyond $700.

@wrestlingnrj: I was just looking at the Dell Mini this morning. It doesn't have a chance when the biggest drive you can get is 16GB. Big whoop that it's SSD, 16GB is practically useless.

What's with all this anti-bacterial crap?
Tell you what: gimmie a laptop designed to attract bacteria. I'll make a point of licking it every day.
Then, when everybody else is dying off because their weakened immune systems can't even handle the common cold any more, I'll be the one enjoying the less densely-populated planet.

@Geisrud:
I disagree. My EeePC has 4 gigs, and I've got XP, Office XP, Photoshop 7, Unreal Tournament, Age of Empires and I've still got nearly 2 gigs of free space (I did compress the "Progams Folder").

God, that's GORGEOUS.
I think that my purchasing of the EEE 1000H just got delayed a bit. Okay, maybe a lot.

8 hour battery life eh? That's not to shabby. Still waiting on the new Macbooks but this may be what i end up with if that battery life is accurate.
Ps. Anti-bacterial schmantia-bacterial, get over it... the germs YOU put on your laptop arn't going to make you sick... now maybe if you make a common practice of lending out your laptop to lepers or skanky hookers you'd want some kind of anti-bacterial goodness but other wise, no thanks.

Bah.. It has the exact specs of the EEE 1000h, except they claim 8 hours battery life instead of 7.5, and it's $100 more.
I just finally bit the bullet and ordered the EEE. The dell doesn't have a 6-cell battery, and I'm sick of waiting.

Anybody else wish they would actually just sell netbook shells without RAM or HDD, because I want to get one but they'll never come with the amount of space/memory that I want and I hate throwing away perfectly good innards.
