Prada II Full Specs Leak Online
Posted by Kit Eaton at 8:01 PM on September 5, 2008
The last we heard of the upgrade to LG's Prada phone, the Prada II, was a grainy photo and some speculative specifications. Now over at Boy Genius Report they've been given a run-down on the full specs of the phone from a source they trust. The rumoured 5-megapixel camera is indeed there, with flash and VGA video capability. 850MHz/2100MHz HSDPA's there too, as is the 3-inch screen. Read on for more.
• Quad-band GSM/EDGE, dual-band HSDPA (850MHz/2100MHz)
• 950mAh battery
• 240×400 3.0-inch screen
• 5 megapixel autofocus camera with flash and VGA recording
• Bluetooth 2.1
• Wi-Fi b,g
• Infineon MP-EH + M180 chipset
• Motion sensor
• FM Radio
• 104.5 x 54 x 16.8 mm
Not bad at all: with quad-band, WCDMA, the motion sensor and FM radio it sounds like a fully-rounded handset. [BGR]

It will even work with Telecom NZs new network starting in November... but they'll want over $1000 for it.

As mentioned above, I'm afraid it will be pricey.
As for the first one, does anybody knows if there is a jail broken community out there for the phone to write apps to?

Verizon will handicap it with that bull$h!t VCast instead of letting it roam free in the wild!

Any ideas yet on who will carry this? Being GSM, finding an unlocked one won't be difficult, but I'd rather have it already set up for AT&T.
Would love to see a side shot to know how thick it is, but it looks thin and happy from this angle. Definately better then anything HTC has put out in BRICKFORM lately, though the slide out DiamondProLookitme could fix that as well.
Love the 5 megapixel camera. Please tell me they put a lenscover on it. It's so simple a design item, and nobody does it. The difference between a phone from a purse or pocket wit-\h a lenscover and one without is makes the item a no-brainer.

@sicknick: Sony Ericssons are not quite in the same league as this, but some examples also have a lens cover.

@utube2007:
There is a good chance Verizon will have it, albeit in a slightly gimped version. It will also probably look different cosmetically.
This is an interesting device. It's good to see LG improving upon previous designs and churn out the same crap quarter after quarter (I'm looking at you SE and Moto).

@xsecretfiles3: Its not JUST a phone, its Prada. cheap? I don't think so.
Other than the price, its a pretty hot phone, fashionistas would wet themselves at first sight. hope the QWERTY doesn't make it fat ;-p
@newtype2011: SE has got Winmo going on, not really appetizing. hope moto could tho

@newtype2011: It probably wont be called the prada, have a different model number if they do get it and it will be months after the gsm version is released

Hmmm, if only this wouldn't cost $899.99 I'd be all over it. Of course that's just the lowest price point I'd assume any newly branded Prada phone would go for.
@hindsight2020: You know, its interesting; come to The Giz, all you read about is VZW hate and how superior AT&T's network is. Head over to BGR or Engadget and both sites are laden with how awful AT&T's service is why they made the switch to VZW.
The again, I've become accustomed to Giz staff and fans' bias towards all things Apple and AT&T so it really shouldn't surprise me. In my experience, AT&T's wireless service has been nothing but hell and despite VCast, I've found Verizon's service to blow the death star's out of the water.

I might actually be interested in this. The lack of 850 made the Prada I inoperable in the US using AT&T unfortunately. I really liked the phone though.

@hindsight2020: It's a GSM phone. Verizon's a CDMA network. They're not getting it.

sorry guys I am back to the post late but, just because the phone is not CDMA, LG will make one for VZ's needs just as they did for the current LG model. @thrashanddestroy: I understand your logic considering the wireless carrier hate. I had Verizon's service which is great but I cannot stand the fact that they push that ugly VCast, VZ Navigator and their operating system on everyone. I know not all of their PDA phones are running VCast, but the ones that are running WM 6.1 suck! As well their plans are too high and mostly all of their phones are smugly! I used to have Sprint as a carrier when they would cut your phone off a day after the monthly bill was due. That's why I left them in the first place, but now I see they have changed their song and dance to keep existing customers around. I have noticed that they do not cripple their PDA phones (namley HTC's) and their service is decent enough for me to live with. I cringe at AT&T! :(

950mha battery is a bit worrying - see the Diamond.
