Porn Browser Wars Heat Up, Firefox Goes Incognito, Too
Posted by Mark Wilson at 12:20 AM on September 13, 2008
In a response to Google Chrome's Incognito mode and IE8's InPrivate(s), Firefox beta 3.1 (hitting next month) will have a privacy mode of its own that will "ensure that users can't be tracked when doing 'private' things" according to Mozilla. There hasn't been such tacit, industry-wide unification for perversion since cocoa butter began shipping in 800 gram tubs. [computerworld via slashdot and image]

I can see non porn uses for this...
But we all know what it's going to be used for. And yeah this isn't a new feature but the moment google had it people started really wanting it....

porn from a web browser? Man, that's oldschool. Why not just hit your favorite torrent site and set up a few quick downloads? If it's a porn-centric torrent site then you'd have to clear out history and cache, but you should do that every once in a while anyways, since being on the internet inevitably leads to your browser caching sites you'd rather not have anyone know you were ever at (consumerist.com)

If this really a 'Apple had it first' feature that you want to be bragging about? They always recommended cleaning your hands after meeting Mr. Jobs, but now I know the real reason.

It's funny how this is becomming a big deal now when Safari has had that feature for over a year.

Im so glad the vast majority of software engineers are men - glorious men, who you can count on to help other men access the porn we all know men need.
this is just fapulous.

That's pretty good, I hope they do a better job than Safari because it doesn't work as advertised, there's still ways to track someones history even using their private browsing. Don't know if Chrome's Incognito has any flaws yet.

@Tails438: Because the torrent downloads usually take hours at least? At least for a full length movie. Clips seem to be more suited for quick consumption, via Flash video.
Speaking of...why in the hell does the Wii Internet Channel not work on any of the good flash video sites? There goes my "free" Fyre set via the Wii...and browsing via MCE sucks. Dammit...what the hell, Nintendo?

Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit what people find in my browser history? I'm a man, therefore I look at porn. It's like criticizing a squirrel for stockpiling acorns.

Distrust for firefox has been doing this quite well for awhile now. It's a handy feature that has more uses than just porn (although that's what I prob use it for like 65% of the time...)

@Emiat: Do a google search for opera tor (OperaTOR). Portable, private and COMPLETELY anonymous from anywhere (including a thumbdrive).
Opera has been the leader in browsers since they joined the competition.

And in other news, scientists recently discovered that if they got squirrels high on marijuana, the little guys would stop hiding their nuts, and just play with them instead.

USA has always had a sad, sad relationship with porn... I mean WTF? You guys make up probably around 90% of the porn industry and yet in your own country porn is some big taboo and in general you are considered at least strange if you watch/jerk-off to porn. How is that normal? Me and my girlfriend do this. We both browse for porn, we both know it very well, and there is no effing problem for us with that. And it is actually a really good way to find new things that turn you on and then try them yourself. I've been browsing porn since I was 15 or so, one day my father saw the links in front of my mother and they didn't go all crazy on me. They just sat with me and talked about it. It is normal to be a teenager and be interested in sex. And at work? You simply don't browse for porn there. If you feel the need to you use your personal laptop for the purpose, or just grab the nice secretary of the boss and do your thing for 10 minutes in the bathroom. Sheesh...
