Official PlayStation 3 Bluetooth SOCOM Headset Is US$49 On October 14
Posted by Jason Chen at 9:15 AM on September 4, 2008
The official PlayStation 3 Bluetooth headset will be arriving in the US on October 14 for US$49, or a bundle price of US$59 if you want to buy it and SOCOM Confrontation together. The headset itself has a "High-Quality" mode, which activates its dual mics and apparently uses "high bandwidth" to make you sound better to the other dudes on your team. There's also auto-pairing with the PS3 when you connect the headset via USB, and a speaker mode when you dock it in the desk charger. The problem with this "high-quality" mode is that it's only available for the PS3, not for your mobile phone. Our guess is that HQ-mode takes up more power, or it'd be on all the time.

I hope it doesn't drop out like other Bluetooth headsets.
I keep loosing my connection on Rainbow Six vegas. I've read it's the game software but I've head there have been bluetooth headset issues with other titles.

That's an interesting pricing. $49 for the headset and 10 more dollars to get SOCOM with it.

I am just hoping that it is better quality than that MGS4 one.

So now, everyone can hear that you're a 12-year-old noob in HIGH-QUALITY.

@Mr.SithNinja: Ditto, I wanted that headset, the quality was such a let down.

Not a bad deal, way better than the 360 mic and it comes with a free game.

$10 for Socom? I'd buy the bundle and sell the game by itself...

Official Blog says HQ mode does not affect battery time measurably. See official blog.

The headset consumes comparable power when the HQ mode is on or off. In both cases talk time will be over 8 hours. Also, we have the Cradle using which you can continue using the headset as desktop microphone while charging.
Any other stones you wish to throw or can we just say SONY has a nice product on their hands?

I am more interested in SOCOM than the headset but since its only 10 more lets get it.

Oh nice! I'll have to sell my warhawk bundle mic. Lost the charger anyways, and I'm don't feel like buying another mini-usb cable.

@Mr.SithNinja: First thing that popped into my mind when I saw it. Sadly, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be just as terrible.

@Kspraydad: I don't think anyone was throwing stones. We're just trying to figure out the difference between regular and HQ mode. Unless you're going for that "I'm using a cheap, generic bluetooth headset" sound, why would you turn off HQ mode?

Why would the guess be that it wastes batteries? Is this not gizmodo? Your first guess should be two mics + high bandwidth mode = cells phones don't support that kind of ability what with the need to pair a single headset/mic at a time to a phone while the ps3 can support multiple (7) blutooth devices at a time.

Damn this is a good looking mic, I can't wait to get my hands on this and Socom. The original Socom mic lasted forever.
