Nokia Comes With Music to Hit UK Mobile Phones First, Next Month
Posted by Kit Eaton at 6:22 PM on September 2, 2008
We alerted you to Nokia's plans for an unlimited, free (at first) music service way back in December: Now it looks like the first place to benefit from free tunes is the UK, starting next month. The Nokia 5310 will be the first handset to Come with Music, but there's no word on when Nokia will be bringing it to the US. [The Guardian via Moconews]

I have a hard enough time with the recording industry and the RIAA to pay them for unlimited access to their recordings as a part of getting a cell phone.

Nokia Hates the US. As does sony ericsson. That is why symbian is so much more popular over there. most people over here don't know what symbian is!

Sorry to bring this up again, but that is the Zune software's "Now Playing" screen in the background.

Nokia hates the US? Where on earth did you get that?
I hate to burst your bubble, but Nokia doesn't hate the US. Quite the contrary. It's the operators in the US that make it near impossible for Nokia to break into the market. At some point in the past, the US operators decided they didn't want to play with Nokia any longer (the reasons why can be debated). But nevertheless, Nokia thinks the US is a pretty cool place, trust me, I know. It's just that if you don't want to play according to the rules the operators set up, then you simply don't get a seat at the table.
Secondly. Having spent quite a bit of time outside the US, I'm a firm believer that the US market is probably one of the most immature markets (in terms of user savvyness) in the world. We are simply way behind everyone else. And why? You can thank the oppressive nature in which the operators here in the states deal with us consumers.
I personally have used unlocked Nokia's now for a long time, and rightfully so. Give me choice, not a locked device and a lengthy contract that's near impossible to get out of. It's ridiculous.

Of course, since people are lemming-like, I'm sure many of those Asian guys would have an iPhone if they could get/afford one. Turnabout is fair play.

N95 8 Gig rules.
iPhones are a fashion statement.
I live in the Orlando area and have only seen one person with an N95 in a 2 years. In PRC and HK I saw someone with an N95 at least twice a day. If there were a group of guys sitting around, at least two or more of the group would have an N95.
The U.S.A. only gets the phones that providers want us to have. It's a fact of life.
I love my N95-I have an iPhone and never pick it up. Just moved the sim into my N95 and enjoy 3G/3.5G speeds for 20 bucks a month. Sweet.

Oh my... I'd be very naughty with unlimited downloads... First I'd redownload anything I might have that's not legal to make it legal and then I'd download anything that I've ever heard of.

@Fountainhead:
Are you sure the ones you saw in HK and red China aren't the counterfeit ones you can find on eBay?
