New MacBooks Shipping to Stores?
Posted by Mark Wilson at 10:11 PM on September 16, 2008
Citigroup analyst Richard Gardner has released a research note claiming that during "field checks" he has confirmed that new MacBooks have begun shipping to stores (from overseas). According to Gardner, the MacBooks feature "very thin aluminium casing, an LED-backlit display and an aggressive entry-level price point." The news either confirms the existing rumours or is just a wild, swinging for the fences guess based upon existing intel. But it all would line up nicely with an October 14th Apple event. Weren't there rumors of a late September keynote to announce these? I feel like shipping them out now would be far too early for an October 14th event.
Anyhow, I'm extremely excited to see what they do with the Pro. I've been waiting for months for a new release.
Quad core? Blu Ray? Higher res 15 inchers?

Looks nice. I don't like those holes and words in the middle of the screen. Looks like they would get in the way of enjoying my stories.

What in the world is "aggressive" pricing for Apple?
I have one of the first batch of the Macbooks (yellowing case and all), an iMac, 2 iphones, and three iPods. So I'm a customer.
But my perception of "aggressive pricing" has been reset by all those neat NetBooks out there now.
A 5 pound+ laptop for $1200 seems kinda lame when I can pick up a $400/2 pound MSI or whatever. Sure it's much less capable, but our household laptop is mostly used for casual browsing and presentations anyway.

I hope by "very thin aluminum casing", they mean "very thin, like the Macbook Air, but not quite as thin, aluminum casing" and not "soda-can thin aluminum casing"...right?

am i the only one who thinks that picture makes it looks like the screen swivels and than can be on top of the keyboard like a tablet? could this not be the macbook touch? why hasnt any1 ever noticed that before?

@jewsrock: I don't think it swivels. It's just that all the photos have shown the shell pieces lying on top of one another. If it was a tablet I cannot see any reason for the two notches at the bottom, except maybe for speakers?

"Because the Macbook Air sucked, we're not going to make it anymore! And you know those white and black Macbooks? NO MORE! Today we are introducing a brand new 13" aluminum Macbook with LED backlighting, multi touchpad and the new Intel processors. a/b/g/n wireless is standard along with the new Bluetooth 2.1 which gives better and easier connectivity to Bluetooth devices. No more combo drives! Superdrives are standard now with an option for Blu ray. SSDs are also available. The entry price: $999. The most affordable Macbook EVER!"
If that happens Apple will finally reach the point when their computers are reasonably priced.

The only thing I don't get is, since when has Apple done a major revision without having the Steve on stage ballyhooing about it? I mean, would he give up the chance to stand on stage in a mock turtle, and say "boom" while clicking on his little clicker box thingy? I sure don't think so.
If this pans out, its truly a sign that Steve has mellowed.
