NES Controller Socket Lets You Control Your Mods with Nostalgia
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 7:30 AM on September 28, 2008
Parallax has just released their NES controller socket to the delights of modders everywhere. Instead of forcing them to chop up an old NES to get the 7-pin socket, Parallax has made it available for only $US2 on their site. The NES controller would be great for all kinds of little projects, from robots to old-school gaming devices, and we're really looking forward to seeing what inventive modders can do with the humble and much-loved controller. Im assuming that there should be an easy way to make a much less expensive nes to usb plug with one of these? I dont have the ingenuity to do it on my own, but hope that a nice modder will give instructions.

@lazerpenguin: It's still necessary to add a USB controller so that the NES pad button presses can be sent to the computer. This thing is just a header so you have something to plug into.
RetroZone will sell you everything you need to make a usb nes controller for just $17. I've bought a couple, it's totally worth it if you like to play emulators, and super easy to do too.

@lazerpenguin: If you want to go the ultra-cheap route, you can just whip up an nes-to-parallel adapter, if your computer still has a parallel port.

Can I put this in an existing NES? Mine has wonky connectors.
