More Cases Essentially Confirm New iPod Nano
Posted by Mark Wilson at 1:28 AM on September 3, 2008
Sure, we've seen "new iPod nano" cases before. But they were shrouded in the potentially illegitimate fog of Chinese OEM. These new cases, spotted at IFA, are by Hama—a sizable accessory manufacturer out of Europe that's been in operation for over 50 years and now making that 4G iPod nano look like a pretty sure thing. Quick, give your loved ones your 3G nanos "out of the kindness of your heart" before it's too late! [Engadget Spain via gadget lab]

Apple should call the Nano, Nono.

Wouldn't be suprised if its not just a case for cheap chinese imitation ipods.
I love the way Giz says its essentially confirmed even though it looks very dubious.

@Jeff Martin: At first I was going to laugh, but then I looked, and I have to agree that it looks fake.
The lighting looks spot on, although it looks like the hand isn't grasping on to the case whatsoever.

@Jeff Martin:
No I mean the case itself not the paper/cardboard inside

The black case (that would not show a screen very well) looks to be a different focus than the hand.
Also looks like an awkward way to hold a item at this angle, don't you think?

@timp123: It's only the case; I assume that what is inside is a paper reproduction of the "new nano."
But I agree completely with your second point.

So i take it from this design change that the nano 3G is heretofore known as the NANO GONE WRONG?

Erm looks pretty fake to me, if you look the circle for the click wheel appears to be off centre (closer to the left) and like its been cut with a pair of scissors (is straightened out at the left of the circle).
Also looks like its been photoshopped from a smaller device being held and this just plonked on the top, who the hell would hold something balanced on their fingernails?

It looks Photoshopped onto the guy's hand.

I don't have one, but I kinda like the current version still. Not sure what extra features they might add to get people to want this over the old version yet.

@Y2KGTP: I think the point of reverting to the old shape is to allow for a 'widescreen' format display. The third generation model was the first attempt at adding video to the Nano line, but it's just too small, especially for watching a widescreen movie.
PS - I don't know anyone who would squint to watch a movie on a 3rd generation Nano, in the first place, but that's not the point.

Jesus Diaz---- where are you?- take a look at this and see if you agree- we all bow to your photoshop skills- are we right, is this an actual older model ipod in a real case, photoshopped into someone's hand?

I'm not sure why people think these are photoshopped or something. It's Engadget, a reputable gadget blog, at a major gizmo convention in Europe. There are pictures of two different kinds of cases, both in hand and dozens of them on racks on the wall. If anyone wanted to bust it as fake, they could just walk down to Hama's booth and have a look.

@Xenocide: No, no conspiracy. Apple just know you'll be buying a new dock.
And if it's not made by them, 10% of the profits are still going to them... unless you're an absolute cheapskate and go to cheapo not-certified brand. Good on you, if that's the case.
It's about money, ya see...

Yeah, guys, he's balancing it on his finger tips. It's a case, I doubt it has any real heft to it.
As Sockatume points out. It's Engadget for christs' sake.
I'm surprised Mr Diaz hasn't had a good look - before Apple see this and get Hama to removed the offending materials. If they're still there than we can presume this is a big old fake.. well, not fake, just a different mp3 player with very dubious design origins.

+Round sections offer more internal room for hardware like wifi.
-Yet another iPod that will not fit into any previous dock. I'm starting to think this is some sort of conspiracy.

@timp123: The clickwheel is off-center because someone stuck a second-gen nano into the case.

@Xenocide: The current Universal Dock works with all of them, so wouldn't it just be a matter of Apple supplying the new nano with the appropriate adapter for it?

I'm pretty sure it's real because at the very top of the case you can kinda see through it and just BARELY make out some of the packages on the wall behind it.

Maybe the person in the photo is neither balancing the case or holding an imaginary photoshopped case. Maybe, just maybe, there's a belt clip being held on to.

Of course, this could just be a (poor fitting) case for a 1st gen nano.

I bet when you hold the new nano sideways it switches to landscape view so you can watch movies in the widescreen format. This would explain the "tall" screen, it makes no sense to have a taller screen otherwise.

@Jeff Martin: Agreed, looks like a horrific job,
btw, thats not the new iPod in it, thats just a piece of cardboard with the print of the iPod.. it hasn't been released yet, so the companies are just starting to make the skins so they can start selling right when the new iPods start selling.
