LG Sets Price for BD300 Netflix Blu-ray Player: A Reasonable US$400
Posted by Wilson Rothman at 5:05 AM on September 4, 2008
LG kicks off the press conferences here at CEDIA in Denver. After teasing the Netflix-streaming LG BD300 Blu-ray player, a double threat if I ever saw one, they finally told us the price today: US$400, well below the US$500 mark LG was aiming to stay under. (Keep in mind, the Netflix box by Roku is, by itself, US$100.) LG says the BD300 will be appearing in stores by end of this month or first week in October.
Some added BD300 specs:
Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding
USB Media Plus - MP3, JPEG, etc.
BD-Live and BonusView
Full 1080p output including DVD upconverting
Netflix current content: 12,000 movies and TV shows streaming

Pretty good. Now that we've got full-featured players, it's time for them to start falling in price - just like what happened with DVD.

Not a bad price point. Hopefully more off when the holidays come around? I am looking for some sub-$250 BR players if not lower around the Black Friday this year.

I've been waiting to take the Blu-Ray plunge, and this LG model is pretty tempting. I'm a disc fan and not interested in dedicated streaming video solutions. But this is a clever bundle that might sway me to make my first LG purchase.
On that note, I have no idea about LG's quality/reliability. Anyone have any good/bad experiences with LG they'd like to share?

Still waiting for Netflix streaming on my TiVo HD. What's the hold-up?

Maybe this will spur Msoft into making a 360 Blu-Ray drive?
I wish...

I'm not sure I want to pay $400 for a blu-ray netflix box when a PS3 isn't that much more.
I can already stream netflix via the PC on my 1080p tv.
Blu-Ray is the only thing I'm itching for.
What I want is an XBOX-360 that plays Blu-Ray @ 1080p.

Yeah, I want a Blu-Ray addon for the Xbox 360 too. Although Xbox Live Market Place is pretty good for HD rentals. But still, there is just a larger selection for HD movies on Blu-ray.
I have a question however, if/when DVD goes away how will I be able to copy the movie and put on a device like my iPod Touch? I like taking my legally purchased DVDs on my iPod Touch. Any suggestions?

As an avid Netflix user, this is definitely going on my Christmas list.

@Unknown2U: It seems like more and more movies are being released with the "Digital Copy" expressly for copying to your media player.
I know it doesn't cover everything (especially, say, TV shows), but it's something.

@Dillenger69: agreed. part of the reason why a PS3 looked like a better choice over an xbox 2 years ago.

Does this little badger have Wi-fi, or is it good ol' cat-5 Ethernet only?

For those wondering about the quality of LG Blu players; I have a BH200 and its rather good. Not a single playback hiccup and they upgraded it to Profile 1.1 and Bitstreaming, most owners really like the BH200, one of the most underrated bluray options currently available (It is basically a BD30 with HDDVD and far better video processing added to the mix).
