Griffin's Simplifi iPhone Dock/Card Reader Isn't a Crappy USB All-In-One Device
Posted by Kit Eaton at 9:34 PM on September 26, 2008
For those of you who were skeptical of the Griffin AirCurve wire-free iPhone amplifier/dock thingy comes this USB dock that is a genuine neato solution. Dubbed "Simplifi," for once it's a product name that tallies with the product's purpose: it's a combined iPod/iPhone dock that has a CF card slot, a Memory Stick/SD/xD card slot and two powered USB ports. See how useful and clutter-reducing that'd be perched on your desk? It's out now for $US69. [Griffin via Wired]

But I already have a memory card reader on my stationary PC...
But it could be useful for my MacBook. Hmm... ^_^

@Zoidbert:
Wish there was an edit key. Apparently I was mistaken in that "hard to hear the phone ringing while in the dock" thing, as it just rang loud and clear. Must've had the ringer set low (easy to accidentally do on the iPhone) when I was using it yesterday. Apologies.

@Zoidbert:
And BTW, it's hard to hear the phone ring when it's in the dock. Not too big a deal, but worth mentioning.

I bought one via Amazon for a few bucks less than that; it works well but not so much if connected via a different USB cable (it's a USB mini to regular USB plug). Twice I had the iPhone suddenly go as "unrecognizable" (yes, even with the AC adapter plugged in); after replugging in with the from-the-box (and woefully short) USB cable it works without a hitch (with and without the AC plug).

@General Halfshaftery: Stick in some missile turrets and a small, toy fort, too!

All it needs is a flag, USB fan and mini flashlight. (to light said flag)

I just wish they'd take their PowerDock and make it do data syncing. It'd make being a double-douche with both an iPod nano and an iPhone all the more convenient.

Hmm,website shows it compatible with "original iPhone" but does not list 3G compatibility. Oversight?

@Kajo:
It's got a universal dock connector. Of course it's compatible.

@DisposableInterloper:
Commentary from Griffin on that is "It's in the works"; right now the issue is with a single USB connection versus syncing two (or four) devices. I still contend having both (or all four) as power and just one as sync is good enough for now.
