Google Chrome Fatal Flaw Discovered, Will Destroy Lives, Dignities
Posted by Jesus Diaz at 10:12 AM on September 7, 2008
Blog Vital Security has discovered a fatal flaw in Google's Chrome, which may dramatically affect the lives of the tens of thousands of people who are running the browser right now:

Dear Señor Google, please don't make a new tab automatically display my most visited sites by default. Seriously. Don't. [Vital Security]

Actually, I think this feature is pretty darned cool! I mean, those other browser don't have this neat "introduce me to fun websites" ability, do they? For example, I had never before even heard of AssholeFever.com or ChubbyLover.com. But now I've been able to bookmark
oh, wait
That wasn't the point of this article, was it?
Never mind.

Incognito aka 'porn mode' remembers nothing, stores nothing, leaves no traces that you visited your fave 3d hentai tentacle guro forum last night.
That is quite a funny and true little comic situation there. To be safe, I do my general browsing with IE8/Chrome and my pron surfing with FF. My missus dosent know what FF is, or that it is even installed :D

The biggest problem I used to have with my wife is when she would ask "why is the history in IE always disappearing??". I'd respond "eh, something's wrong with the computer" . Now I use Firefox, which she doesn't touch, so no more issues (but I still wipe the history religiously). Would never use Chrome though because, well, if I forgot to clear history once, she'd have my history staring her at the face as soon as she opened the browser! Not good!

@redman042: No she wouldn't, in fact you SHOULD use chrome man. Haven't you heard of the 'incognito' windows?? in chrome, you go to the upper right hand corner and hit the button there, and then hit "open new incognito window." Once you are in that window whatever you do in there, whatever tabs you open, whatever will not be stored on your computer and WILL NOT be shown in your most visited page. Its basically the 'PORN MODE.' so..... DON'T use ie, and DON'T use firefox. chrome is now the best wife defense my friend :D

Do people not understand the concept of having multiple (a) computers or (b) user accounts or (c) browsers?
I have my "sterilized" laptop and my pr0n laptop. The sterilized laptop is all official and shiny and slick and speedy.
Furthermore, because I've never really been a fan of Opera and because I know that Girlie doesn't know what Opera (the browser, not the music) is, more often than not, it's by pr0n browser of choice.
Chrome's Speed Dial is no more a threat than a house that contains both a toaster and metal silverware.

All defaults should be sure, in any product btw. Why OpenBSD is more secure than pretty much any other OS out of the box. Of course that's before product users get into the mix and make a thing either more secure or less, but it should start from a default position of strength, not weakness.

When you look at Googles overall historical record with regards to security and privacy, they are clearly not nearly as good as MS or Apple or anyone tthey purportedly compete against. They just keep getting a free pass due to their corporate motto, in situations that would see anybody else villified across the blogospere. We geeks are quite a partsan lot, much more than logical....

I think even without an extension you can get incognito browsing with Firefox. Create a Firefox startup menu item "FF 2nd profile" that starts with command line options -P -no-remote (-P prompts for a profile, -no-remote lets you run it at the same time as regular Firefox). Run this and create a new profile named "temp test". Test Firefox bugs in that Firefox instance. In its profile use Tools > Clear Private Data whenever you want, and set Tools > Options > Privacy > Always clear my private data when I close.
This lets me test bugs in nightly Firefox alphas to see if they're reproduceable in a simple profile with no add-ons. Replace "Test bugs" with "Surf pr0n", if you like that sort of thing.

There's two things I hate about Chrome.
1. The favs scrolling has no scroll bar like IE6. Takes FOREVER to scroll all the way down.
2. There is NO option to change what comes up as a new tab. While I don't have this porn problem, I'd like my actual homepage to be displayed with a new tab.
