EA has announced that nine new titles are currently in development for the iPhone: Yahtzee Adventures, EA Mini Golf, Lemonade Tycoon, Mahjong, Monopoly: Here & Now The World Edition, SimCity, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09, Need for Speed Undercover, and The Sims 3. Many of these titles have been mentioned before, but I was pretty pumped to hear about SImCity and the Sims 3 being added to the list. EA has also revealed that they are shooting to release Spore Origins on September 7th—the same day it is released on the Mac and PC. Hit the jump for some new Spore screenshots and the official press release.

EA Mobile Announces More iPhone Games in Development: MONOPOLY, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR
and Need for Speed Undercover
LOS ANGELES, Calif., - September 5, 2008 - EA Mobile™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS), today announced that Spore™ Origins, an original game for the iPhone™ and iPod™ touch, will be available later this month. The game takes full advantage of the devices' built-in accelerometer as players tilt, turn and twist their way through a world made of primordial ooze. In conjunction with the launch of Spore Origins, EA Mobile also announces a list of nine games in development for both the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms.
Eat-or-be-eaten in Spore Origins! Designed exclusively for the iPhone and iPod touch, Spore Origins uses the platforms' motion-sensing technology to let gamers navigate a primordial tidepool on a quest to evolve. Feast on the weak and flee from the strong through two exciting modes and 35 challenging levels. Pinch, pull, and poke your creation in the Creature Editor, customising the texture, shape and body parts to improve your offence, defence, perception and movement as you evolve over millions of years.
"The iPhone and iPod touch are the perfect platforms for a game like Spore Origins," said Travis Boatman, Vice President Worldwide Studios at EA Mobile. "Fans of the game can customise their own creatures, and then dive into exploring the ooze-filled environments by rotating the device for an experience that is truly unique to these devices. EA is excited about extending the Spore franchise across several mobile platforms including the iPhone, iPod touch, iPod as well as regular mobile phones."
EA Mobile today also announced nine titles in development for the iPhone and iPod touch, pending regional availability. This list includes YAHTZEE Adventures, EA Mini Golf, Lemonade Tycoon™, Mahjong, MONOPOLY: Here & Now The World Edition, SimCity, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09, Need for Speed™ Undercover, and The Sims™ 3.

I do love my iPhone, but it's very frustrating (to me) when I see apps/games that look like this.
I've heard that the iPhone is "as powerful as the Dreamcast" or "more powerful than the D.S. and PSP combined" but I see many games utilizing the same graphics style as Spore which looks like a game programmed in Flash.
...and that may be an insult to some of the better Flash games out there.

Spore looks great. My kids are still loving the free Koi pond and Tap Tap. I still am heavy addicted to my Holdem Poker (but with the added Apple logo) hasn't it been a bit tougher to win??! Any pricing on Spore?

Actually, instead of lemonade tycoon, someone needs to port a version of Drug Wars, I used to play that on my Nokia 3650. :)

All I need is a decent golf and bowling game to go with the mahjong I already have, and I won't need anything else. Well, and my poker dice game.

About the power of the iPhone, I think they really have to prove themselves, Ive seen the need for speed game on youtube and it looks impressive, but until they create a game with the scope of a GTA like in the PSP, or Zelda on the DS it's pretty much useless have it.

@MICHAELSD: I wouldn't be surprised if many of these did end up being mobile ports. I'm hoping that they're not. There's a lot of potential with the iPhone especially with a game developer like EA... i.e. unlimited resources. Check out CTA's spin on the announcement. You'll probably agree with us.

@melikespi: id Games said it was as powerful as the PS2 and Xbox. They're making a game that's supposed to really show what the iPhone can do, I'm sure we'll see a lot of games looking a lot better once id shows off what the iPhone can do.
I'd be more excited if I wasn't so sure that they'll all be ports of the mobile versions of all of those games. We'd see better graphics if developers stopped porting most of their iPhone games from mobile ones.

@Grifter: I'm looking at Koi Pond in the App Store and I'm seeing 99 cents. Is there a free version I'm not seeing? I don't like to sound cheap, I know it's only a dollar, but I've already got a Koi Pond on my iGoogle..
What's up with calling it iGoogle anyway?

That's funny, I was going to say the same thing but figure some jackhole would just tell me to jailbreak my phone and use a C64 emulator.
Anyway, I second that!!!!

@OMG! Ponies!: So install Frotz. It's in the App Store, it's free, and it works okay. That and one of the file management apps will let you move the HHGTTG game file onto the iPhone and play it. Worked fine with Zork I for me.

Well im glad to see that game companies are flocking towards the iPhone. And why not..if I owned a company i would sure as heck go that route as well. This will be a good start if EA and other more reputable companies develope or port games over. It will force out all the crappy games and flashlight/lighter apps by becoming more of a portable gaming device where the users expect higher quality games. Still not sure why Nintendo doesnt cut a deal with Apple and release the NES games in some sort of package deal. Just hope that these new games dont cause any more iPhone grief (freezes, lockups, and the S.A.D.)
