Design
Dutch Architects Envision Mind-Bending Virtual Realities Using Photoshop
Posted by Jack Loftus at 1:00 AM on September 14, 2008
Imagine screaming down the freeway sometime in the near future and seeing this loop rushing forward to fill your windshield. Or, changing gears, what if commercial airlines flew their birds in a V formation, like birds? That's what Dutch design firm NL did recently using Photoshop, everyday architecture, and a little imagination that was perhaps inspired by a certain leaf available in special Dutch tea rooms. Google Tree? Energy-producing monuments? Sure thing!

I really like the tree coming from the sea and into the land.
I'm not keen on the plane formation since it is has been done in airshows before, not with planes that big I know but not that new either way.

That loop would have to be shaped like a tear-drop or people would get nose-bleeds.
Totally Photoshoped! =)

I too like the inverse palm islands in Dubai. They should do that one.

I call shenanigans. Those aren't photoshopped at all. The shadows are all correct and the perspective is totally on.
Who are you trying to fool?

Tea shops??
They aee known as coffee shops as distinguished from Koffee shops (which are like regular lunch rooms).
One other thing - it is not the leaf that is sought but rather the flower.

@mciarlo:
"Just a joke"? Hardly! Oh no, my friend. I thought your comment was a trenchant mirror of insight which turned the intellectual tables on the visual metaphor which the headline of this article was trying to achieve. With a literati's flair, I most enjoyed the way you decocted teardrop and nosebleed with the just the right "dash" of irony! That'll fix their wagon, I thought. As the pièce de résistance, a defiant misspelling--capped off with a whimsical, devil-may-care smiley face--heightened in a most poignant fashion the points which I surmise you were trying to make. Namely, "Life is brief... have fun." Or perhaps, "Neither the tears in my eyes nor the blood in my nose will deter me from my never-ending quest for knowledge and truth."
My opinion counts for naught, and I am but a simple man. That said, I submit your comment demands... nay, deserves... "Quote of the Day" status. Anyone with a corpuscle of thought could not arrive at any other conclusion.
I bid you good day, sir... and nevermind the gaggles.

Assuming that loop has a radius of 60m, the cars need to move at a linear velocity of around sqr(60*9.81)*60*60/1000 = 87.3km/hr to make it to the top.
You just need to drive faster... This calculation of course assumes that friction doesn't exist. >_>

We can make that loop, we just need a big enough couch to build a high sloping road from it to reach proper velocity to enter/exit the loop safely.

TickleMeElmo
Posted 3:23 AM 14/9/08
@DarkMirage: That would leave you at 0 velocity at the top, at which point (sooner, actually) you'd plummet to the bottom. You need enough speed to stay in hard contact with the loop. With a circular design, this would be very high. An inverted teardrop would make it much easier, because it would match the natural ballistic parabola.

@Kayway8: But just think about how many less cars would be on the road? Most cars wouldn't even make it UP the loop. F1 Cars shouldn't have much trouble with it, as well as a few others , i.e. mclaren F1, certain ferraris, basically anything with adjustable downforce and high horsepower engines. Basically, the roads would eventually become a real life burnout:paradise.
