Download iPod Touch 2.1 Software RIGHT NOW
When we plugged in our iPod touch to iTunes 8, we were hit with a software update notification that led to a dead link. But now, we’ve got a line on what looks to be a live download path to the iPod touch 2.1 software image. Here’s the link–we’re grabbing and testing as we post, and will update with details. Once you download the update, how to you install it??
Itunes will not allow me to import the download.

1. Update your iTunes to 8.0 first
2. If you downloaded the firmware file here on Gizmodo it was in a Zip file. DO NOT UNZIP the Zip file. Instead, rename it by replacing the .zip extension with a .ipsw extension.
3. Place the iPod1,1_2.1_5F137_Restore.ipsw file in the following directory C:/Documents and Settings/Your Name/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPod Software Updates
4. Start iTunes
5. Plug in your iPod Touch
6. Itunes may offer to update to 2.1 at that point. If not, click on your iPod under Devices in Itunes
7. On the Summary tab in iTunes, click on Check for Update. This should take you into the process for updating and restoring your iPod Touch to Version 2.1
iPod1,1_2.1_5F137_Restore.ipsw is for the original Generation 1 iPod Touch, not the new Generation 2 version that just came out. There is a 5F138 version out there too, but it is for the 2G version of iPod Touch.

Or you could just hold down shift then click either restore or check for updates and you can search for the file you downloaded.

please help, i’ve downloaded the latest up date, and now when i try dragging the album or film into my ipod screen to place it there i get a red circle with a line through it and it wont let me transfer it.Has ipod done this to make you buy direct from them?

I want to manually update songs on my ipod. There is no more “Summary” tab to select “manually manage” songs anymore. When I drag songs to my Ipod. It always asks me if I want to “erase and sync” which I don’t want to do. Help. How can I add songs from my Itunes library to my daughter’s Ipod?
