Dell Inspiron 910 Gets Release Date: This Friday, September 5th.
Posted by Kit Eaton at 9:20 PM on September 2, 2008
We've been following the news and leaks on Dell's Eee PC answer, the Inspiron 910, and now here's some more info: we've learned it'll be released on September 5th. The news is not concrete, for sure, and there's no word on pricing, but that date's soon: this friday, ultra-portable PC fans.

Inspiron Mini 9 is now visible at www.dell.com.au under Home/Home Office --> Laptops --> Inspiron Laptops. But it seems it is not (yet?) being offered in Australia with Ubuntu. Also no sign of price in AUD. Base price in USA is US$349, but lots of add-ons, so the price will quickly ramp up. See www.dell.com for USA offering.

This probably is the real date, the date coincide with the back to school time-frame for retailers. As the picture indicates, this would be a great supplement for the student and education market.

@JoOngle: because this is low-price market, so everyone puts in just what they really have to.

I so wanted one of these, but as it stands I'll wait for my current laptop to bite it before buying another smaller one.
My N810 tablet has filled the portability gap nicely in the meantime.
That being said I eagerly await the review-modo!

Long-waited ultraportable notebook. eeePC has been one step ahead, having latest 900 and 1000 models. Acer is there with Aspire One. Fuji and MSI are also there. What about battery? Heard that Dell has 4-cell compared to eeePC 6-cell.

Well for $300 I don't know that I can resist, but I want to see how all the pricing for more options plays out, as well as how much what was originally the 12.1" E Slim will cost. If I can get that bad boy with a battery that will last me all day for about $700 I'm in.

@chuloallen: August came and went.
They snooze they lose, but hey I might come back if this is well reviewed or they send me one free.

Dell really dropped the ball when they missed their 08/22 deadline. I've heard from at least a dozen people who were waiting to buy the Dell E, and went for Acers or HPs shortly after. For this netbook to make up that lost ground, it had better cost $250, make water into gatorade and cure carpal tunnel syndrome just by looking at it.

I still haven't taken the plunge on a netbook, so I'm hoping that they're competitive with eee, etc. in terms of pricing, features, etc.
What could really differentiate them is the ability to customize (which is what they are known for). I'm not sure it makes sense with such a low cost product, but would be a welcome addition to choose how much RAM, SSD or spinny HD, screen size, color, Linux or XP, etc.

@ Hvedhrungr and all the other Dell bashers that think Aug. 22 was some kind of release date or deadline. IT WAS A RUMORED RELEASE DATE!! GET A GRIP AND READ!!!
AND, let's bear in mind, that this piece of Gizmodo copy is also only heresay.
Dell has yet to officialy announce anything!!
I hope it does indeed come out Friday. I'll gladly place my order then.

@Dinotech: My problem was after they tease eveyone, they dont say ANYTHING about when its coming out, thats why if you read my comment you will see, all i wanted was information on when it would be out. Not releasing an official release date hurts them more, since people dont know how long to wait, or hold off buying a new computer

One major problem I noticed (and with a few other netbook keyboard layouts): The right shift key is placed behind the up arrow. It makes it nearly impossible to touch type. Ugh.

one of dell's internal blogs had a post about them deliberately NOT releasing this until after school started to avoid losing sales of their more expensive units.

Dell, Dell, Dell. August, Dell. That ring a bell?
The only reason the Aspire One isn't in the mail is because I've been waiting for an Amazon retailer to catch up with the price drop, since I'll be buying with a gift certificate. If I can confirm by Friday that your 1G RAM model is cheaper than Acer's, Dell, then you have a deal. After Friday you can take a long walk.

I was waiting ever since the first photos of Michael Dell carrying around the mini Dell. Then I saw images of the keyboard and I bought an Acer Aspire One the next day. How will anyone be able to touch type on this thing?

Its about time! Dell should be considering themselves lucky that there are people still waiting for this netbook. They've already lost perhaps 1,000 sales due to their ridiculous delays...
Sigh.. lets just hope it'll perform well, if the $300 price tag on it is true, they have a chance on making a comeback.
I'm holding out from clicking the "Buy Now" Button for the Acer. Come Friday and Dell oversleeps again, they'll lose more buyers than ever.
Cheers,
Nick
