China Launch Success Hits Web Hours Before Actual Blast-Off
Posted by Jesus Diaz at 4:20 AM on September 26, 2008
China has successfully launched their Shenzhou 7 mission this morning. It will be their first-ever spacewalk and a major steps towards their trip to the Moon, so its completion is vital not only for their space program but also for Chinese propaganda. So vital that a full article describing the success of the launch was actually written and posted hours before the actual launch, including descriptions and astronauts' dialogue that never happened:
After this order, signal lights all were switched on, various data show up on rows of screens, hundreds of technicians staring at the screens, without missing any slightest changes ...
'One minute to go!'
'Changjiang No.1 found the target!'
...
The firm voice of the controller broke the silence of the whole ship. Now, the target is captured 12 seconds ahead of the predicted time
...
'The air pressure in the cabin is normal!'
Ten minutes later, the ship disappears below the horizon. Warm clapping and excited cheering breaks the night sky, echoing across the silent Pacific Ocean.
And people wonder why the tin-foil hatters think we never went to the Moon. [AP and AP]

I assume the Chinese government continues this kind of crap because they only really care about the Chinese people's image of the nation and, by extension, the government. They don't care if they look foolish to the West because the criticisms will mostly never reach their censored population.
I think we can look forward to more hilarity, although when you think about it a bit, it's very, very sad. It sure sucks to be a Chinese commoner these days. Every government lies to its people, but with the censorship, the Chinese are likely to continue having warped, erroneous world views. It's also very scary; what happens when the Chinese government wants to rile the populous up for war? Who in that country will even attempt to put the brakes on that?

@VakeroRokero: You should know better than to believe everything you read or hear. hehe. The world loves to dish on the US. If it is even a little problem then they will make it out to be the worst thing ever. Don't hate on the US just because you hear things about it. That is like deciding to hate someone because you heard they were bad. The US is clean, the gas is cheaper than most other places in the world, the government obviously has money and there are plenty of jobs if people want them. The only people I ever hear complain are people that feel sorry for themselves and don't want to do anything about it.

I've been keeping close tabs on the U.S. Stock exchange, as well and the other world trade markets. They are all suffering. The united states plays a major role in every world economy and the downturn is effecting everyone from china to europe. Even now China is closing down production and exports are trailing off. Thailand isn't faring much better, both being major industrial exporters. None of this removes the fact that The U.S. is still the biggest major economic player in the free world, trailed closely by Japan. That's still debatable I suppose. You're missing the thrust of the article though. Most governments lie, or distort the truth for some sort of gain. Either for themselves or the benefit of their people. It's just sad that China is so dramatically and consistantly terrible at it.
EdithKaboleoum
