BlackBerry Javelin Gets Reviewed, Showered with Adoration
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 4:30 AM on September 21, 2008
The fine addicts over at Crackberry got themselves a pre-release BlackBerry Javelin, and found it to be a worthy follow-up to the Curve, as well as having advantages even over the schmancy-pants Bold. The Javelin is not only the smallest of the three, which feels great in the hand and the pocket, but also boasts the sharpest screen at 480x360 HVGA+, for smaller and crisper icons. The camera, processor, and internal memory all get a significant bump from the Curve, making it noticeably snappier. In terms of navigation, the keyboard is very slightly more condensed, but the reviewer finds it just as easy to use. But the biggest improvement might be the smallest - a dedicated Lock button. We still don't have an official release date or price, but the pre-release review is a happy hint that it might come out sooner rather than later. [Crackberry]

I still think the Bold is the way to go if buying a Blackberry.

How is the dedicated lock button any different than the one on top of the curve?

My GF is thinking about getting a blackberry for her business...any good blackberry purchasing guides out there on the nets? I'm too lazy to google.

Biggest improvement a dedicated lock button on top of the device? Wow. Wonder where they got that idea...

@ghmlco:
not from the iPony for sure since Curve had it already
"But the biggest improvement might be the SMALLEST- a DEDICATED Lock button." (instead to use the mute button on the top)

I would trust a launch day version of this over a launch day iPhone 3G. Only had three ejections while reading Gizmodo on the iPhone 3G yesterday - way to improve things, Cupertino.

@eblingmis: Safari stopping and kicking me back to the home screen.
Only happened a handful of times while listening to music. Personally, I'd prefer never - but baby steps.
OMG! Ponies!

Windows Mobile Devices, Treo's, Slider phones, Blackberry Curve (my 8800 has one via shortcut)
Get off the iPhone's dick

Sigh......
I wish Verizon wasn't the god of network coverage in my area...probably have a long wait to go, even if they do make a CDMA version.
But if it ever does come to VZW, I fully expect the GPS and WiFi to be locked down tightly. Heaven forbid we should use our device without paying you.

Right now, if you are shopping for a blackberry, the curve is totally the way to go.
The 8800 series have a shitty keyboard
The 8700 series are like carrying a brick in your pants (maybe good for some?)
The 8100 series is small, and nice, but has that damn interpretive text input crap.
The 8300 Blackberry Curve is like a smaller, nicer, non-shitty-keyboard-having 8800, with the added bonus of a camera (that does video too).
The new Bold, despite all the other compelling reasons to own it, has a really shitty keyboard. Very similar to the one on the 8800 series, where there is no space between the keys and it's impossible to touch type on. Considering the main reason most people get a blackberry is to e-mail on the go, a good keyboard is paramount.
The Javelin, when it comes out, looks ready to take the top spot of the Curve.
We use them extensively at my work, and i've tried and used them all quite a bit. Curve > all.

lock key is key, I had a friend with a BB Pearl, and I would get "In-pocket" calls all the time!
