Best Warning Sign Ever Doesn't Mess With Idle 'High Voltage' Threats
Posted by Kit Eaton at 2:00 AM on September 20, 2008
High voltage electrics plus risk of sparky, smoky death plus humorous engineer equals excellent warning sign. I'd keep well away, after reading that. Though I do remember an old girlfriend's dad once pinned a freakishly similar note (substituting the odd "I will" into the text) to his daughter's bedroom door, and pointedly drew my attention to it. @92BuickLeSabre: hey, how do I post a pic in comments? On the rare occasion that I find a picture I want to put up, I have no idea how you and abnormal do it. Any clues? you can leave a personal message on my page if you don't want the secret out to everyone that would post pictures of random crap and turn this into fark.

No number of clearly posted warning signs will dissuade stupid people from doing stupid things. There is evidence that stupid people will, in fact, be attracted to the signs and ignore them.

That looks like a Bay Distribution Fuse Bay (BDFB) we have those in the Verizon central offices. That plastic is there for a very good reason. Don't mess with stuff that has fuses that blow only AFTER they reach 30 real amps.

Really quickly?
Just super-fast-touch-it?
Ooooh, I want to touch it!

People usually don't read the instructions, so what makes you think curiosity won't get them?

Saw it 3 days ago on Digg. After recently going through a bad break up (last week), I have concluded that my ex needs to wear this on a t-shirt on her next date. Just as a heads up for the next poor schmuck that gets to deal with her.

I can see how this would be more effective on the average dummy, u know, the guy who would have touched it if it was your typical high voltage sign.

I must have searched for ten minutes looking for that very page. I even searched for "embed image" and nothing came up. Oh wells, thanks again for the great reference.

If they really want people not to touch it, they should warn something like "This will cancel your foodstamps and welfare check" or "You can never drink beer again" or "Touching this will cause your penis to shrink to 2" in length" etc. On second thought scratch that last one as that would be an improvement for some folks.

I like the top line:
"And remember this important safety tip regarding electricity".
Yeah, I was the kid who read the bottom line of the eye chart. It said "Refractionists must compensate for a 1/4 diopter of accommodation in the final prescription"
